My vegie house and raised beds have been built! It's rather grand. I think we'll need a Veg Mahal warming party...it'll look nice with a mirror ball ( Read more... )

Wow that's impressive. Who built it all? Instead of using chicken wire, maybe use mesh, like they do at the Melbourne Zoo. They have mocked up an Asian garden near the elephants and have used cloth mesh and bamboo. Ah but now I think of it, the fabric wouldn't be able to take the weight of the possums.

Yes, i guessed it was you. :-)
Well we certainly didn't build it! It was the same builder who did my office conversion. I looked at bird net...the white stuff sticks out like the proverbial (and looks ugly), and the black stuff reportedly gets birds and possums tangled in itoccasionally. I don't want to have to cut a dying creature out of the net then have to re-net it. i figured chook wire would be a long term solution.

Kita is looking forward to working in there with me...hoping this might encourage her to eat more vegies, if she grows them herself!

Looks great.

But I'm really worried about George. Those soft fan-boy hands are just gonna be ruined by all that render! I know how much he wants that Blokey Badge, but really...

It's ok...he wore gloves the whole time and he has a big tub of lavender hand cream on his bedside table. His hands are safe from blokiness. ;-)

You can never say no to a potato! Most impressive!! Will the cats have access?

The cats have their own closed run along the side of the house, so they don't have access to any of the rest of the garden at all. But i'll bring them for a visit when i'm working in there...they'll enjoy the smells!

Very nice. BTW, if and when I get around to building the house of my dreams one day, you won't be offended if it bears a striking resemblence to your abode, will you?

Why, thank you! A huge complement!
Unless of course you meant the house of your dreams will look a lot like our Vegie House...in which case i think it will get a little breezy in winter. ;-)

Well, unless your vegie house is your current 'abode'.
