So, dj_spider gave me a good idea. (Partially) Because of Twitter, I've been neglecting this here LJ more than I had been. So, here's to see if expanding on my Twitter posts of the last 24 hours will be at all interesting.

Day trip to Philly tomorrow, tagging along for a session at WXPN. Should be fun. Or at least interesting. This is for my internship. I ( Read more... )

I am so excited for that movie. A dark comedy about killers? What could be better?

Burk and Hare - those were the guys who killed derelicts to sell for dissection? The term "burking" came into common use, I believe. To mean being killed for profit...

Not sure Landis can do anything I want to watch anymore. Pig.

Yeah, those guys.

Are you saying that he's a pig for making this movie? I feel like there's a way to address the subject with both humor and respect for the poor people who were murdered.

To quote one of my favorite singers, Amanda Palmer:
Can I simply state: When you cannot joke about the darkness of life, that's when the darkness takes over

...

So, you ask, should we joke about cancer? Dead babies? The Holocaust?

Have you seen Life is Beautiful? That movie is not a joke. It does not "make light" of the Holocaust, the same way that my song does not "make light" of abortion. It shows how humor exists in darkness. How it must.

Humor saves us. Humor is one of the strongest weapons that human beings have against suffering, death and fear.

Sorry, that was long, but she said it better than I ever could.

Oh, no, I totally agree that art can and must be made about dark subjects, even in a humorous way. I'm a big fan of the Coen brothers, who do that sort of thing to perfection. Miss Amanda is totally correct: if anything saves us, it is (compassionate) humor.

No, my problem is with Landis, who has never taken responsibility for the deaths of 2 children and Vic Morrow in the Twilight Zone movie. The only distress he ever expressed was that it nearly tanked his career. As i said. Pig.

I'll have to go brush up on my Burke and Hare, this could be fun...
