Okay, the stars are just aligned perfectly right now or something. Maybe it's the luck of the slightly Irish, or the Welsh or something. :P ( Read more... )

Hope you don't mind the comment, I saw your post in the tmbg comm.

Holy crap! What a great meeting Flans story. When I lived down by the city, I had this weird worry anytime I went to the Met that I'd run into him. How cool that he was so nice and agreed to the do the interview.

Have to say, little curious about what his email address is (not because I'd want use it, but because you found it amusing).

Oh, not at all. I wouldn't have linked to it if I didn't want you guys to leave comments. :)

I know! Oh man, I had kinda entertained the thought of running into them somewhere ever since I moved here in September for school, but never in a million years did I think it would actually happen. Yeah, this has totally just reinforced my love for them because an unapproachable musician is a total turn off. The fact that he was willing to chat for a couple minutes shows that they're good people AND make excellent music.

Haha, I do trust you, but if I were to post it there'd probably be someone who would try and use it.

I figure if you spend enough time in the city, you're bound to see them. I think I've heard of people spotting Linnell and Henry in the Museum of Natural History. And if you go to Brooklyn, I imagine it's even more likely to see one of them.

Haha I'd say just leave out the domain, but I'm sure there are people who would try to guess it.

Oh probably. I mean, the city is only so big. My dad managed to run into a high school acquaintance on St. Marks back in the 80s when he and my mom lived here.

Yeah, unfortunately.

Neat. I have no idea about cultural context, but if you get him talking about music and what it all means, I bet he could go on forever. :D

Good luck!

Haha, yeah I got his response to my first questions this morning, and they were a lot longer than I expected. I think my favorite part was actually his response to my asking if he could maybe pretty please forward my questions to Linnell too.

"No problem, but, candidly, John is a bit behind on his press obligations already! I just can't chase after him about this stuff. It would take up all my time. Hope you understand."

Ask what happened to "No Answer"! Because that song is awesome, and I want to know why they've not done anything with it.

I second that!

Even though I kind of believe it turned into "Certain People I Could Name" and that's the end of it, still, No Answer is prettier.

Awesome. Hey, I just read your interview off of the tmbg community, and is it all right if I cite it for a paper I'm writing on TMBG for college as well? I had to write a paper about a CD (I did John Henry!), and analyze the music and its cultural impact. The hardest part was when I had to explain what genre the band was (we weren't allowed to just say "alternative rock"), because I really don't think they're definable in terms of genre, so I really like Flans's response to that question.

You are so lucky for getting that opportunity...Good luck with your paper too, if you haven't already finished it/turned it in.

Definitely use it! It'll be interesting to be cited in someone's paper other than my own. Haha.

My paper is due next week! Eep! I'm three pages in, but it's all biography and how I was introduced to them so far. I definitely am gonna have to edit a lot of it out and put in more analysis. I hope you make your paper available to read once it's done, as I'm curious as to what different people have to say.
