Lexie Grey and the Cloak of Denial

Jul 13, 2007 16:31

I think I'm the only person on the planet (or at least the Mer/Der ship) who isn't running screaming with yesterday's press release.  But for some reason, I don't assume that this means a Meredith/Derek/Lexie triangle.  There are a couple of necessary ingredients for this.
  • Reading the writer's blog with a cynical eye
  • Knowing that you aren't alone ( Read more... )

I'm with you! *pumps fist in air*

That being said - I'm scared. I was very optimistic for the finale as well, and that didn't turn out so well.

There have also been rumors that the focus groups which trashed Gizzie also trashed Lexie and Lexie/Derek. And SR was doing major rewrites on both concepts. What scares me about that is what she was writing concerning Lexie that she was having to rewrite.

Like you, I can't believe SR would be dumb enough to indulge in the horror of a Lexie/Derek hook-up, because there would be no coming back. But I'm scared.

You might also like to know Chyler Leigh has now been confirmed as a series *regular* and not just a recurring guest star. She's in for the whole season.

I have to say though, I really liked S3, at least all the first half. I liked it better than the end of S2.

On the TWOP boards, someone who seems fairly well informed says that series regular is a standard industry term, defined by the unions. It means 13 episodes. So that's no news, but confirmation of the 13 episode contract. If you go to those boards, you'll get feedback from at least 2 people who were on the Touchstone panels, and yes, Lexie is more hated than Addison was 2 years ago. With less reason, because Addie was supposed to be all bitchy and designer-dressed. Lexie was supposed to be bright and shiny, and there was supposed to be a spark.

Hah! A spark! I guess we figured out what prompted the arson in the finale!

And I also liked season 3, but only through Wishing & Hoping. And I wish that Meredith and Derek weren't Eskimos.

When I am thinking with my brain, I'm right there with you, every step of the way. McDreamy is dead if he even thinks about going there. And surely Shonda knows that and is just jerking our chain.

But but but...... when I am thinking with my emotions, Crazy Shonda scares the eff right out of me. She's just that batshit crazy to try it to see if The Brilliance That Is Shonda can pull it off - bring McDreamy back from the dead. Her ego is that big.

And Lexie was keelhauled on the Touchstone Panel. It was a feeding frenzy - even the server crashed. So when I am being foolishly hopeful, I think that the CL contract was in place before the panel, so while they can't just hit *undo* and get rid of her, there is a massive change of direction going on.

So I hope. And I worry.

DAMN YOU, SHONDA!! (I need to create a macro for that. It's going to be a long summer.)

Heh, you summed up how I feel pretty much perfectly. When I make myself calm down and think rationally, I can kinda hope that Shonda isn't stupid enough to actually ruin her show. But, I'm not so good at the rational thought, and there's a good chunk of me that thinks she's got a huge ego at this point. She just might be insane enough to think she could destroy McDreamy and bring it back.

Plus, the full circle-ness of Addison sleeping with Derek's "brother," only to have Derek then sleep with Mer's actual sister makes me scared too. We know Shonda's got an obsessive love for full circles. I think she's in for a rude awakening if she goes there though. If she pulls that one, I'm done, and I think a lot of people will be too.

I clap my hands! I know Shonda wrote some really weired and stupid storylines recently but after all I believe that she knows that hooking up with Lexie (hooking up with anyone really) would destroy the McDreamy image. And she LOVES McDreamy, so she wouldn't do that to him. Or herself.
I think the flirtation was the usual "let's annoy the viewers with some hints that won't happen anyway" kind of thing. And I furthermore (wnat to) believe that Lexie is supposed to be something like the fake-mommy Susan for Meredith. Part of the real family she never really had. And there is a lot of story potential there, because it's going to a be a new sort of relationship which hasn't been explored on the show yet: Siblings! Except for George's brothers but they are so much NOT like George and not that close, that there isn't that much of things they have in common. Other than Meredith and Lexie might have.

So right now I'm not really worried about Der/Lexie, but looking forward to Mer/Lexie :-)
