He'd had a bad feeling about this from the beginning. All these strangers, and the poor animals left all by themselves, and nobody he knew anywhere nearby! It had been bad enough, and now, now with all the shadows everywhere...

Poland made a dash for the house, and didn't slow down until he reached the living room. Maybe he could hide underneath the couch cushions and nothing bad would find him....

He tried.

She gives out a frightened squeak when someone dashes in so suddenly like that. "Ah, u--um Po--Poland!"

"Oh, hi, Luka!" He paused, briefly indecisive, then decided to go for his original plan, tugging one of the cushions up and burrowing underneath it.

Ashura had stayed in ruined villages and castles and cities before, so it didn't really bother hir that much to come into the house and make hirself at home. The beds in three of the rooms looked much too little for hir, so sie'd set up in the room with the big bed.

But sie couldn't sleep. All of the things that sie hadn't remembered yesterday, and didn't really now, but sort of halfway did... Plus, she was the only grown-up here, and really wasn't sure sie was prepared to take care of all those kids!

Sie would try, though. Sie would do hir very best.

Sie couldn't help wondering if they were safe in their rooms--something about this night made hir uneasy, and sie wanted to go check on them, but for now sie just paced the floor of the bedroom, nearly silent on hir bare feet.

After spending days between the ruins of her colony, with burnt bodies around and no one to talk with if not her small squirrel-like friend, this is nothing: Samus held a fryng pan, put a colander on her head and... oh, look Ashura, she's peacefully going to fall asleep on her bed. Okay, she's feeling alone but she'll survive (as long as no one attacks the place).

"Mh... hello?"

Ah, it seemed like one of the children was awake. Ashura smiled apologetically.

"Did I wake you?"

It's something-thirty-nine AM, and even though that's probably only 12:39, Miku feels like any minute now her staring at the ceiling will be interrupted by the declaration that it's already the morning. Something's just not okay. She should have fallen asleep automatically as soon as she went to bed. But there are so many little disturbances... The worst is this big tree outside. It keeps casting these bizarre shadows into the room in the moonlight, and creaking, and swaying, and whenever she notices something she has to stay awake for at least ten more minutes to be sure it's safe!

So now she can't take it anymore. She slowly steps out of bed and looks around. The other kids can't all be asleep when everything is so unsettling like this, right? Definitely not! She goes over to another child's bed and whispers, "Hey, are you awake?"

She's still trying to get to sleep. No matter how harmless the place really is she can't help but remember those creepy shadows and those--those weird noises, and--and it's making it hard to sleep and--

She squeaks when she hears another voice, further cocooning herself with her blanket. After a while she peeks out. "M--Miku?"

Oh... she didn't mean to disturb her sister. Especially not like this! It's really nice, being about the same age as Luka for once - she's just the most adorable ever, uwaaaaaaaah. She shrinks back a little before convincing herself that Luka must have been awake this whole time, either. Right, because everything is all strange and stuff. Yeah.

"Luka? Can you not sleep either?"
