The silver-haired teen was sitting in the grass, smoking a cigarette and resting his back against one of the trees when he noticed the new arrival. What the.. A fuckin' toddler? And a bear?!

''Who are you?'' Gokudera gave the pair a scrutinizing look.

Canada flinched a little bit, then looked around to make sure this person couldn't be talking to anyone else before looking back at him.

"I- I'm Nouvelle-France," he said hesitantly. "Who are you?"

''France..'' Great, yet another fuckin' nation. What was up with with their captors recent obsession with kids? Well, this one was surely many centuries old and all that shit, but still. ''I'm Gokudera. What's with the bear? Is it your pet?''

"Kumajirou is my companion." It was the sort of thing he rehearsed saying, as an excuse for having a polar bear with him at pretty much all times. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Gokudera."

Well, he knew plenty of people with weirder pets, so why not a polar bear?

''Jirou.. Someone I know named his dog that too.'' He sort of missed the idiot. ''How do you like this place so far? Pretty crappy, ain't it?''

"It's large and unpleasant, as far as houses go," Canada admitted, looking around at the ground. "I would much rather be home, or at Papa's."

''That sums it up pretty well'' Gokudera agreed, taking another drag from his cigarette.

''You and your father don't live in the same place?'' That would be pretty strange by human standards since the kid looked about 4 years old, but he guessed it was usual for nations? ''Nouvelle.. Nuovo.. Nouvelle means new, right? New France? So France is your father?'' Gokudera was Italian, and French was a Romance language too so some of the words were rather similar.

Canada watched Gokudera puzzle things out, shaking his head at the question about living with his father, but nodding at the conclusion that he was New France, et cetera. "He is. Do you know him?"

''No; I've just met you, Russia, Poland, Prussia, and the Italy's. Don't know about Poland, but the last three are trapped in this facility too.''

"Oh..." He looked at the ground. None of those were nice, not really. And, well, that was sort of depressing. "Where are you from?"

''Italy, but I moved to Japan recently.'' The other's obvious disappointment when hearing about the other nations present in the bloody prison was a bit amusing. ''Yeah, they're all a bunch of idiots. What nations do you like then, apart from France?''

[furgotten]

"I've met the Italies," Canada said, wrinkling his nose briefly. "L'Espagne is alright, sometimes. Much better than Prusse. Oh, and Alba and Irlande give me hugs, so they're okay. Monsieur Angleterre says I should like Amérique, too, but he's not always very nice to me anymore."

He was fidgeting with his hands by that point, realizing just who he would miss here, who he would no longer be getting hugs from. This was also depressing.

''Do you have to speak in French all the time? It's fuckin' tiresome.'' Gokudera was irritated because he hadn't been able to translate all of the names, but he noticed that the child looked a bit sad. Not that he cared of course, but still.. ''You might not like the other nations here, but you'll probably get along just fine with most of the girls; they'll surely fuss over a little kid like you.''

For the comment against French, Canada at first looked ready to cry, then look a deep breath and let it out in a huff. He didn't want to be English. The English weren't nice.

"Will they be friendly?" he asked, of those mystical girls, even if he wasn't sure he liked Gokudera very much. "And Alba isn't French."

''Perhaps not the ones with black or silver hair, but the others surely will.'' Gokudera thought that both nations and children were an annoyance, and Canada was a mix of both so the sentiment was mutual. ''What does Alba mean then, and what language is it?''

"Scotland," Canada said, then, almost without a pause, added, "Scottish." There was a slight hesitation, then, while he mentally checked to make sure he'd said the right thing, before he continued on. "Will you not be friendly, then, either?"
