Hit Top Shop at Oxford Circus if you're going shopping. It has five floors, it'll amaze you. Leicester Square for the cinema (although it's expensive).
Do you know which shows you'll be seeing yet? Generally you'll need to book well in advance. Last time I went I used lastminute.com and got top price seats for Legally Blinde at 50% off, we were right in the centre on the third row.
Hmmm...I don't know what else. Safe to say, you've picked the best possible year to come to London. It's going to be intense this summer! (Go Team GB!)
Oh! And you of course have to go to the Harry Potter Studio Tour! I assure you, you will not be disappointed!

This is what I could pull up from my sightseeing in London tad. ;) One of the entries is a dedicated sightseeing post so hopefully it will help. I wrote it out in May 2008, but most of the info shd still be current.
Also, those moths sounds insanely creepy. I would have screamed my lungs out too.
