History Class

The exam is a combination of question types: 25% of multiple choice questions, another 25% of open questions, and a short essay worth half the exam, on a selection of three topics, that is, the origins of the French revolution, the colonization processes of North America, or the sources of the Anglo-Irish conflict.

Before that, though, Paul created a revision game, in which students, in teams, had to compete in a quiz, much in the manner of the famous television show Jeopardy, which was, well, quite the rage when Paul was taken from his home and timeline.

He's available for questions, of course.

Student list: Dancy, Ryku, Titus, Cathy, Genie, Zhane, Stiles, Lou, Lukas, Erica, Fang, Lulu, Warren, Tom.

[OOC: Feel free to assume whatever with the quiz game. Also: Paul also handed over a course plan, spanning, more or less, the 17th to 19th century, as evidenced by the final. I just couldn't be arsed to create it. :-P ]

As it so happens, the seat Erica chooses was empty because someone was saving it: Genie's so excited that Warren registered, she wants to be close, in case.

Part of her knows this is a big deal to him.

"Hm, I'm sorry," she says a bit tightly, mostly because nerves and also that girl is really pretty, which makes her insecure."... That seat's taken."

Remedial Classes

Given the very nature of her teachings, Carol has given her students assignments to hand in on the morning of the class. These are comprehensive literacy assignments, with reading and writing exercises, the latter giving quite a bit of leeway with creativity, because she's nice that way. Included in this assignment, for those who needed them, were some basic science and math questions.

The last day of school, though, is reserved for oral presentations. She is very lenient with topics, so long as the kids (of all ages) express themselves clearly, and in a way that is structured. She's asked them to choose an object, and to explain to the class why it's important to them.

A classic, we know. Some oldies are also goodies.

Student list: Zachry, Sophie, Jack Frost, Cal S., Lou, Sophia, Manuel, Daniel.

Carol liked the practicality of the presentation, and will say so to Lou. She keeps to herself her appreciation for the fact that it is also educational for the younger students, but will let Lou know that she appreciates a mature presentation, and that the contribution is welcome.

Her grade, though, will be dependent on the quality of her spoken expression - whether she articulated, avoided contractions, and used proper grammar.

Hope this works? We can thread if you like but it seemed like a effective way to go....

Well, Sophie showed up. At first she was very shy and hid behind Sophia and Daniel. Then she realized that Sophia's Mum (whom she's called Mrs. Sophia's Mum a few times, accidentally) wasn't mean at all, and that the other students were fun too, and she got a little more comfortable.

When asked to present for her last class, she came with a shoe (a rather large and orphaned Nike), and explained that it was something she'd found in a wardrobe "when she was little" while playing hide and seek with Mr. Carstone, and that it's been such a very long time but she remembers how she thought it was weird, and isn't it funny because now her dad wears shoes like this and she doesn't find it so odd anymore.

She explains all this, then waits (a little trepidationously) for questions.

Stephanie Barnett - Chemistry

Stephanie had familiarized herself with her roster before the first class: Geneviève Émery, Dancy Flammarion, Titus Groan, Riku Miyagusuku, Catherine Morland, Warren Peace, Erica Reyes, Stiles Stilinski, Tom Yarbro, Zhane.

On the first day of class, she passed out a syllabus. It would have been more detailed, but there's not a printer. Dammit. So they were each hand-written.

Organic Chemistry
Syllabus and Course Information

Instructor: Stephanie Barnett

As I have no office, please see me before or after class. Between classes, leave a note for me in the common room. Help Sessions will be offered by appointment.
Materials: (a) Organic Chemistry by Robert T. Morrison (Author), Robert N. Boyd (Author) (Required)
[It was the only option in the library. I expect you to rotate the text as needed, and whoever has it at any given time, bring it to class.]
(b) "Molecular Model Set for General and Organic Chemistry" Prentice Hall, 1965. (Classroom)
[Thank goodness for the attic!]

Lectures: I will only ( ... )

Last semester, her black beast was horseback riding. This semester, let's face it, it's chemistry. First things first, Genie is terrified of Miss Barnett. Secondly, well, she's just not scientifically minded. The truth is, she misses Crazy Crocker.

She still comes to class on time, is faultlessly doing her homework, brings the books as required, and does her best to talk to her friends about it, but the truth is, she's got zero confidence in her work.

At least Warren's in the class with her, and she's got friends she can talk to about this, but still.

So the night before the final, she straggles. She's desperate for help, really, and feels like she might cry.

Stephanie is probably the last person that Genie wants to see, but that's who comes along and finds Genie looking a little desperate. While she's professional as a professional, she's a doctor first and foremost. She's concerned at observing one of her students upset, and has no idea it's her class that's causing the distress.

"Miss Emery? Are you feeling ill?"

Genevieve's default response is to blush, and then to look at her feet.

"I... no, Miss Barnett, I'm fine, thank you."

She doesn't seem like she's ready to leave, though.

This is how it went: Sophie came into this one very excited because HORSIIIIIIIIE! Except she realized early on that it wasn't all that easy. There might have been a bit of a struggle with her size: just going up on the horse was some work for the kid. And wasn't she happy uncle Justin had made her boy clothes!

It helped a lot that Lou was in her class with Mrs. Sophia's Mum: our Sophie was much less impressionable. For this class she's wearing appropriate clothes, and she might actually be a bit rambunctions, singing loud for the others to hear.

This may be an examination, but this, to her, feels like a party.

Zachry turned out to be a natural at this: his experience herding goats gave him confidence in dealing with horses. His ride with Meronym having been the most intense baptism by fire anyone could ever have received, it turned out that without the stress of controlling one's flight or fight reflex, it was much easier to stay on the saddle.

And so he's around and pretty happy about this class, and will be on time, confident, relaxed, and looking forward to the ride with Lou.

I don't think he's met Fang yet, has he? :-D

Fang has been largely quiet in the course. At the beginning, he'd worried that he might spook the horses, but that wasn't a problem, fortunately. He found he enjoyed riding horses, and his wings seemed to help his balance, making it easier to jump fallen trees and the like.

It's now, at the end of term, that he regrets not talking to his classmates more. Oh, he talked to Sophie, but he still barely knew Zachry and Aramat. He approaches Zachry since this is their last meeting as a group; there hadn't been many.

"Hi. I'm Fang." He'd seen Zachry at Genie's party, but didn't actually meet him.

Neville Longbottom - HerbologyIn Neville's course, students are given a plant (usually of their choosing) at the beginning of the term. If a student keeps their plant alive, expect a good grade. He does offer a written final though, covering basic botany. If attached, students are welcome to keep their plant at the end of the semester ( ... )

Predictably, Genevieve did well with her herbology class. She's curious about the healing properties of plants, and very interested in controlling vegetation growth as a result of Warren's almost lethal run-in with Poison Ivy, years ago, at the Hotel.

The plant she's chosen to nurture and work on is a dahlia, and she would say she's very happy of how it turned out.

She'll be in class, gently removing what's dead and cleaning the leaves, while admiring the flowers' petals. If anyone were mean, they might even call that exercise a bit narcissistic. Truth is, she's in love with that plant.

For some strange reason, Titus picked an English Ivy plant. It would seem you can take the young Earl out of Gormenghast, but you can't take all of Gormenghast out of the young Earl. It's his second choice after his bad luck with hand-pollinating a vanilla plant. But considering how yellowish and weedy-looking the ivy is, it doesn't look like he's having much luck with this one, either.

Genie of course has her group of friends, and is likely usually ensconced in it, but perhaps fate has it that she'll be sitting by Titus through some twist of fate on the finals.

They don't really know each other, but he seems to have such trouble with his plant project, that he's going to get a sympathetic look, as if she were debating whether she should offer condolences or not.
