when the northern wind blows [ota]

Alice has been quiet these past few months. She remembers she came to the Mansion when it was winter (although summer back home), and now that it's getting colder, she's thinking back, looking at the past, recalling ( Read more... )

Here is Steerpike, and he is coming upon one of the few people who find mercy in his eyes. He'll saunter over, then, and bow to her like a leprechaun.

"Lo, a sad-faced girl," he says by way of greeting. "How terrible it is a sight."

And having done this, he plops on and attempts to steal her needlework.

She looks over at him, surprised to see him there, and tries to grab the needlework back from him, quickly, with a sort of lady's grace.

"Give it back," she protests.

He laughs and there is something youthful in it. He does like to tease you, Alice! And so he'll raise it up at the end of his arm, laughing.

He might even stand on his chair!

She sighs.

"Come on," Alice insists. She won't move--it's too unladylike to leap up after him.

Stacker has an adopted daughter about Alice's age, but the similarities probably end there. Nonetheless, her melancholy will probably garner his concern. He sits in a chair nearby, peering out another window nearby. "The weather brings to mind the holiday season. Does this place have a Christmas tree each year?"

Alice looks over at the man, and smiles a little. A distraction is a good thing, she thinks.

"I arrived here just after Christmas last year, so I'm not certain. I would assume so, though. It would be nice."

She'd like to celebrate the holiday at the Mansion, at least.

Well, here's a friend, who hopefully will be able to cheer Alice up. Delilah wanders in from outside, and she'll come to Alice with snow in her hair and cold hands, and plops in the seat next to her.

"You look depressed," she informs Alice. "A most terrible state to be in."

All right, seeing Delilah makes Alice smile, if only for a quick moment, and she's thankful for that.

"I do feel rather melancholy," she admits.

"It's the weather change, and all this time inside," Delilah replies. "You should come out with me, it's cold and crisp outside, but it makes you feel more alive."

"Do you think so?" she asks. "I feel as if I would freeze out there."

Here comes Elurin, alone, and though he might have been planning on joining his brother, Robb and Benjen for a spar, he stops when he sees the lone figure brooding. He knows that emotion, and he's compelled to approach her.

He puts his training sword away, then, and says, "I'm sorry, are you quite alright?"

Alice shrugs, a tad helplessly.

"Maybe it's the weather," she says, not wanting to give too much away.

He nods, agreeing. "There is less sunlight, and it can make one's heart ache for lighter times." He smiles a little, then bows. "Perhaps I can offer meager compensation in the form of a distraction? I'm Elurin." A beat. "Of Doriath."

"My name is Alice Munro," she replies. "I come from the colonies--the American ones, that is."

She smiles a little as well. He's certainly gentlemanly, she thinks.

Angsty girls gotta stick together right?

So Ann may be around, looking at the girl.

"Need any help with that?"

"The embroidery?" She looks up. "I'm sure I can manage, but thank you."
