[Mingler] If this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?

Sep 27, 2013 22:43

It's not winter, not quite, not yet, but the weather seems to have forgotten that minor fact as the day downs crisp, cold and white. A layer of snow has covered the ground overnight and large, fluffy white flakes still drift down through the air. A glittering lacework of frost gilds the windows, and icicles have begun to sparkle along the eaves ( Read more... )

Even though he's a world away from Starling City, Merlyn's keeping to the same schedule he had, and that includes rising early for an hour's meditation before starting his now far more relaxed routine. In some ways, it's like being in Nanda Parbat all over again.

And with the snow and frost coating everything, it certainly looks like the snowier parts of the Himalayas.

"Huh. The weather changes fast around here," he observes.

I had to laugh when I saw this post: it reminded me of that freak snowstorm we had at Halloween a couple years ago.

When Sophie woke up, she felt a chill, and slipped out of bed to look out the window, on the offhand that there might be snow. And there was! There was! She rushed out of bed and woke her mother, barely ate anything, lost a mitten on the way out, and dove into the snow the moment she could. The pompom atop her pink tuque is sticking out of the snow, and she giggles, before she turns on to her back.

She's going to make a snow angel, oh yes she is. This, she's decided, is going to be the Best Day Ever.

Twilight Sparkle has been studying the leaves and observing their changing colors, but now she has some very unusual phenomena to observe. Where she comes from, the snow doesn't fall until the Pegasi in Cloudsdale are ready to send in the snow clouds (not to say there aren't some mischief makers who like to mess around with the weather works)

She's likely trotting out into the snow, looking around her in bewilderment. "Um... is this a normal snowfall, or is someone playing with the weather?" she asks.

Sparky, so serious! Sophie won't stand for it.

Her response to this is to pack a snowball and throw it at her friend, laughing.

*Boof!* the snowball hits her smack in the face and Sparky might fall back onto her tail, in the soft snow. "Oof! you've got a good throw, Sophie!" she yelps, giggling. And it's almost exactly like something her friend Rainbow Dash would pull to get a rise out of her. "Does it usually start snowing this early around here, or is this a case of freaky weather patterns being freaky??" she asks.

In less than two months, Michelle will be a mother, but right now, she's heavily pregnant, but absolutely insistent she has to go out and see her first snow here. She is rather bundled up though, with a big red coat, woolly hat, and scarf.

Maybe what she was told was true: there is no calendar here. Winter's come early.

She's enjoying the simple pleasure of snow crunching beneath her feet. Still, she's being careful, not wanting to fall.

Here's someone else who's bundled up in a thick coat, possibly with a tuque pulled over head and ears, and a scarf wrapped around his neck, trudging along. Spying Michelle, his first thought might be 'Oooh, cute girl', followed by 'Oh my, pregnant cute girl'.

"Cold enough for you, Miss?" he asks, muffle-voiced.

Michelle is both cute and pregnant, and enjoying the snow. The tip of her nose is red from the chill.

"It is! I had no idea it was so close to winter."

Crunch, goes the snow, and she's oh so careful.

"Last *I* knew, it was closer to summer than winter: thought this place was an alternate northern U. S. of A. Now, not so much. I'm wondering if we're in an alternate version of *Canada*, because I do have a certain amount of experience with snow in October from all the years I lived there," he says, starting to rattle a bit. "My mother used to figure out ways to design Halloween costumes for me and my sister that would fit over a winter coat." And he might keep glancing at Michelle's middle warily, as if he's worried something might jump out.

Snow!

Too terribly excited to remember such frivolous things as a cloak, hat, mittens, or scarf, Fuchsia's rushed outside to make snow angels.

Meanwhile there's a Jane huddled up in three hoodies to keep warm and is seriously thinking about back inside.

She was never really used to cold weather.

In a few minutes, Fuchsia will freeze, but the newness of it all keeps her safe from chill for now. She looks over and sees the unfamiliar face.

"Finally, snow!" As if winter wasn't only 7 months ago.

"Great for for you sweetheart. Some of us are fucking freezing." Jane mutters.

Stiles sometimes acts like he's older than his seventeen years, but not in snow. He's full of youthful energy as he bundles up for warmth and goes outside to play in the snow.

Jack approves when children of all ages play in the snow and he laughs in delight when Stiles comes out. "Hey, you come out to play, too?" He has no expectation of being heard, but he always tries just the same. "Who doesn't like the snow, right?"

Stiles does believe in mythical creatues (his best friend is a werewolf after all), but he's never really thought about Jack Frost one way or another. It's a shame too, because he'd love hanging out with Jack. Alas, he can't hear a thing, but he totally understands the call of snow and fun times. With no one else around, at least that he's aware of, he'll make a snow ball and toss it at a tree, hitting it solidly. He'll chuckle as it disperses on impact, and bends to make another.

"That's it!" Jack laughs as he collects his own snowball. "But trees aren't all that fun to play with." He throws his own snowball at the back of Stiles's head.

It's not like it will make Stiles see him if he turns, but it's ...plausible, at least? that the snowball might have come from someone hiding behind another tree.
