[Mingler] Foundations

May 29, 2013 17:38

The time has come for works to begin. Ned is waiting for words from Captain Reynolds, who told him he would find more workers, but he did in fact begin to amass his forces. First comes digging: if the home is to withstand the elements, its foundations must be solid, merged in rock ( Read more... )

Among the first to arrive on the building site is the young knight and septon who gave shelter to the Stark clan after the winter earthquake. He's only too happy to lend aid to the elder man and his family.

And he doesn't know that someone from his past and his world has also offered his strength....

When Ned spots him, he smiles and waves at Parsifal. "Ser," he calls. "It's good to see you again, now that the weather is kind once more, aye?"

"Aye: I have been clearing the grounds of the chapel from windfallen branches, when I have not been busy tending to those who asked for my counsel, including your lady daughter-in-law," he says. "How goes it with my lord and his lady wife?"

So this is where the young lady Stark-Martell got her counsel, Ned muses. Of course - a septon, where no maester is available.

"Both are well and hale," Ned replies. "We've come to joyous news - the babe she carries will be healthy."

Robb arrives for work dressed appropriately, a shovel over his shoulder that he found in a closet. He is still unaccustomed to the Mansion providing as it does, but he is no less grateful for it. He is beaming, and it is in fact an expression that rarely leaves his face, given he is expecting a child with his lovely wife. There's is a marriage of confusion for them both, he thinks, all because of his lack of memory, but it wasn't difficult to care for her again in spite of the amnesia. And his love for his unborn child is completely unfettered.

"Father!" he hails him on approach. "The weather is fine for our work, is it not?"

Ned was just finishing delimiting the foundations, and looks up, smiling. "Aye, so it is, son," he calls back. "Fine enough - you were born on a day such as this one," he adds, eyes on a cloud, before he looks down.

"I reckon, we'll make headway come the end of the day."

"As the winter is gone," Ned remarks, rhyming intentionally, which makes him smirk. "There will be plenty time to discuss it, true enough. Though I shall ask, who made you lord of these works, brother? I must have missed the raven."

Catelyn comes as Ned is starting to want to curse his bedamned lame leg - it requires so much effort to use it as leverage, so much energy, that he can hardly focus on the rest of the task, aiming at the rock he's trying to dislodge, or even planning where that bloody thing will go when it's done.

He forces, until he has to stop and call for a second set of hands, which is when he spots his wife.

"Is it mid-day already?" he quips, breathless, "I thought it may never come, aye."

And to complete the set we need Ange, should she tag here, or in the other thread with Benjen and Robb? :P

"You and me, my lady," he replies so very fondly. There is breathlessnese in his voice and sweat on his brow, but he looks, and is, happy.

"I would speak with you of aught new."

Assuming everyone's had their proper share of food, he'll join Catelyn in a slightly more secluded spot.

I shall send her to the other thread, after having excused Ned from it - on the pretense of lunch, if that works? :P
