"Technically, it was because I was innocent when I was executed and it's something of an apology. To be honest, I'd much rather they left well enough alone." Boyle shrugs.
"It was the law where I'm from though, so who could argue? Any unfinished business I had was effectively cut off from me when I was brought back. The dead don't really have many rights."
"Usually as a deterrent, or a source of entertainment where I'm from," Boyle says with a slightly sarcastic tone. "What do the dead do where you're from?"
Boyle nods, clearly not surprised in the least by this statement.
"We're dead, not monsters. If I could, I would give up everything for my husband, or my sons." He had given up everything for Ashby. "I just wish I were able to now."
"I have no clue what you're talking about," Shadow replies with a sad little smile. "I'm sorry I dozed off on you. Guess I was more tired than I thought."
"Well, I'm not a very entertaining or energetic conversational partner," Boyle jokes. It's been a while since he felt comfortable enough to do that. "So I won't take offense."
"Outside?" Boyle shakes his head. "Only when I first got here. Wet and I don't really get along well." Wet, damp, heat... Cold was good, but when it came with snow or slush that turned to water, he usually avoided it.
The question plagues him, even in his sleep.
“Were you the one to bring her back?”
“Yes, no, not the first time, not on purpose,” he replies, mumbles in his sleep. “-- should have known better.”

He pauses, and says, “But the dead can have an important role to play.”

He pauses, tries to find a way to summarize it.
"My wife protected me."

“I'm very sorry about all of them,” he says, because he doesn't assume they're alright.

He still misses her, every day.
“Yeah,” he finally says.
His hands found their way to his fiddling coin. For fiddling. Which is what he does with it.

"I apologize for waking you up and bringing up bad memories. It's been a while since I've had conversations with the living."

He realizes that this may have to do with the watches, and stretches.
"I think I need to walk around a bit, before I actually go take a legit nap. You been out yet?"
