[Introduction] "We're all Kyoto-bound...."

Dec 03, 2012 03:41

Kyoto, 1336: The time of Ashikaga Pretenders of the Empire of the Rising Sun, also a good time for some autumn foliage-viewing. The three of them, he, Rose and Jack, could use a vacation, and despite the unsettled climate, the Emperor wasn't above throwing a party to mask the intrigues. He loved a good intrigue: all the better to find what the ( Read more... )

Wendla's sitting inside, working on her sewing, when she hears the door. She looks up a little, assuming it could be Zhane or a friend of hers.

"It gets stuck sometimes," she remarks softly, concerning the door. She doesn't think there could be someone new on the other side at all.

"It gets stuck? Well, that's to be expected: stumble into a strange place, and a door gets sarky with me," he mutters, wiggling the knob a few times whilst twisting it. Finally, it pops open and he stumbles in: a tall, lean fellow in a leather jacket that's not quite seasonable, and a friendly if slightly sarky smile. "Sorry about that: door decided to be less than welcoming."

She smiles easily.

"Hello," Wendla says. "I don't think we've met--are you new to the Mansion?" She assumes so, because there's something about him--about all newcomers, really.

"The Mansion, eh? That what they call it 'ere?" he asks, dusting off his coat and shutting the door behind him. "Bit obvious, but I've visited other places called worse names.

"Hullo, I'm the Doctor."

At some point he'll likely wander past Canton sitting in the main room, scribbling away into a little notebook. After his experiences he's decided that the best he can do is to write down everything, every scrap of detail he can remember about the Silence while it's still fresh in his mind, the Doctor and his companions and the TARDIS, as well as everything he's learned so far about the mansion. He's got too much experience with forgetting things, and he's not about to take any chances.

He'll watch the Doctor out of the corner of his eye, trying to be unobtrusive about it. He seems to match Jack's description of the version of the Doctor who dressed like a U-boat captain, but he'd thought it was supposed to be the other one who was around. Plus, walking up to someone and saying 'hi, you haven't met me yet but I know you' seems an awkward way to introduce oneself and he hasn't come up with anything else yet.

Rose might wish she was here, since for once, he's scanning for alien tech, sonic screwdriver in hand, whirring as he moves about the room. There has to be a reason for a house in the middle of nowhere, something he's not seen before and there's precious little he hasn't seen.

Thus Canton might hear a familiar sound nearby, only it sounds a bit deeper and more robust, and if he looks up, he'll find that U-boat captain-looking fellow pointing it at a lamp.

Has to be a reason for this, some generator that's pulling people here. The next question besides 'how' is 'why'?

It's the sonic that does it, because that may look different, but it's similar enough. That and the fact that he's pointing it at a lamp and apparently expecting to get some sort of result. Considering the Doctor, Canton wouldn't be overly surprised if he did.

Canton quietly closes the notebook, tucks it into the inner pocket of his jacket, and stands to face the U-boat captain with the big ears. "Doctor?"

His head pops up and he snaps off the sonic screwdriver, straightening up, rather surprised and puzzled as he turns to the interloper. "That would be me, but who would you be? Don't think we've been introduced, at least not yet," he says.

For a change, Paul will not be found in the library. For once, he will in fact be out in the kitchen, rummaging methodically through a cupboard, looking for coffee. He's slept in (much too late to his taste) and needs, pretty badly, to have some caffeine in his body, along with food.

Coffee first.

Then, toast.

And maybe eggs.

But coffee, really, is a priority.

"Could always 'ave a cuppa tea," a cheery, slightly fruity baritone might suggest, and someone holds a red Twinings tea tin around a cupboard door. "Good thing on a cold morning, or most any time, for that matter."

The worst is, he even kind of sounds like the Doctor Paul knows, except a bit more, yes, fruity.

But isn't he loony anyway?

"You know I need caffeine, Doctor," Paul replies, his head still in the cupboard. "But here's some Earl Grey if you want some."

He puts the box on the counter without stopping, he's a bit sleepy and rather focused.

Must. Have. Coffee.

"Bit of a busy tea first thing in the morning, so many additives, but it'll do," he says, taking up the box, studying it, sniffing it even before opening it and taking a teabag from it, flicking it into a mug waiting on the counter. "Told that Earl Grey he'd come up with a busy tea, but he went on with it anyway."

Here is someone we haven't seen in a long time.

Delilah was out scouting snare spots - first snow was insufficient, but soon, a new hunting season will begin, and she knows game is good at the Mansion. She'll step in, half-bundled as the weather is clement, still, and might be a bit absorbed by the exercise of removing shawls and other things, and putting them into the entrance's wardrobe, to notice anyone observing...

[OOC: I know she's a potential drop, but I kind of hate to drop her, and, er, I want to test how I enjoy her, since it's been so long, before I make up my mind...]

One door of the wardrobe might swing a bit and someone holds it back, to keep it out of her way. "Hullo, in from a walk?" a cheery voice with a British accent might ask. "Bit brisk, but good for the blood."

Testing is good! We welcome testing.

Delilah is usually fairly skittish, but she's been better since Daeron saved her.

Of course, that will probably disappear eventually, and she will once more be a frail thing in need of protection.

She startles, then, and turns to look at the English man.

"Good for hunting," she replies.

She eyes him suspiciously. The English are responsible for much Shuswap suffering.

"Not much of a hunter, me, or at least I don't set out to be: usually I'm the one gettin' hunted," he admits. "Doesn't stop me from turnin' it around, find out who's doin' the hunting and why."

Should the Doctor take to exploring the grounds, he might wander into an area which has remained untouched by the glaze of winter. Silver and gold trees are still young, but their foliage contrasts sharply with the barren greens and snow-covered evergreens.

The soft song of the slim, solitary stream would be all that troubles the quiet of this eerie scenery, were it not for its mistress.

Galadriel sits on a rock, her white robes settled, and she sings to the stream's slow rhythms in a language known only to those of the First Age of the world.

Moments untold.

She might hear footsteps crunching on the snow, approaching, then pausing at a respectful distance.

Four billion languages, and here's one that the Doctor hasn't heard yet, but it's a particularly beautiful one, like something from the dawn of time itself, with the kind of wisdom that makes him think of High Gallifreyan...

Galadriel hears the footsteps, but she is a confident, fearless woman who stands with men on the field of battle when need be, and so she will be quietly going about her business, until the song is done.

"You come with a curious heart, stranger," she says softly when she's done.

"Went out for a walk, heard someone singin' in a lovely language I'd not heard before," he admits, thoughtfully, even gently. "Heard plenty of new languages, but not that one before. Mind my askin' what that was you were singin'?"
