[introduction]: and with tenderness I'll cherish you

Feb 16, 2010 18:38

It's been a quiet day, and she's taken to going for walks. She doesn't like to spend too much time with the others, even if they are always, at least outwardly, very polite and don't ask questions or look askance - she suspects Indis' doing in that - but all the same, she can never quite feel comfortable, even with these newcomers for whom the ( Read more... )

Marguerite has taken to haunting the porch to get fresh air and a little exercise. She wears a heavy wool cloak over her gown, but no hat or gloves. There have been few enough ladies of any sort, in her experience of the Mansion so far.

One hand resting on a pillar, she nods to the elf woman. "You do not seem dressed for the weather, my lady."

Well, if she needed confirmation that she's not in Valinor anymore, there it is. All the same, even if she knew it, Nerdanel blinks it slight surprise. "I am not dressed for the weather here," she says, fairly mildly, "I am for the weather where I was. It does not bother me, however. Might I ask where I am?"

"So you are but new arrived?" Marguerite asks, just for confirmation. "I should have expected such a thing."

"What 'such a thing?'" She doesn't quite bristle, although that single eyebrow does rise. "And yes, I am, I suppose, since you ask, although I was not aware that I was traveling anywhere in particular."

Iggy is feeling rather overwhelmed by all the people and has also taken to going for walks. Or even short flights to get to know the area. At the moment though, he's walking, and there's a heavy coat hiding his wings as he makes his way through the trees.

He does stop suddenly and tense up when he comes within earshot of a stranger and he 'watches' her, head tilted to one side, as he waits to find out what she might do.

Well, she is an elf. And elves tend to notice when they are being watched, or when someone is nearby, and Nerdanel is old enough not to be too perturbed by it, so she merely pauses, head tipped slightly to one side. "I assure you," she says mildly, "I am quite harmless, despite whatever you may have heard. It is generally considered polite to introduce oneself, I believe?"

He shies away a bit, but it's not like she hasn't seen him already so there's little point in running.

"I haven't heard anything about you," he says, moving a bit closer. "So I wouldn't know anything about you." Accept that you're female and probably another adult. "I'm Iggy. Who are you?"

She blinks a little, startled to see any Atani, at first - but she knew that things had changed, and even if one can't usually walk out of Valinor - well, she doesn't make the rules. They might well have changed, who is she to say?

Or else he isn't Atani. But he is young, that much she knows. "Well, so much the better," she says, lightly enough. "I am Nerdanel. I am pleased to meet you - Iggy? - if curious and a bit...perplexed."

She notices someone in the trees, and looks up, a little startled, half expecting - old memories, here - to see her young niece Galadriel in the trees, probably reading - but no. Another Atani, and therefore a somewhat more unusual sight. She shades her eyes to look up. "Pardon me, if it is not too much to ask that you interrupt your quiet?"

She steps back and watches him climb down, noting small details about him with her usual calm and steady gaze. "Thank you." She smiles, barely. "It's unusual to see Atani in trees these days, from what I have heard. I'm pleased to see I was mistaken."

Caranthir will be out - scouting - he realizes he can't hide for ever from his father, and besides, he really should be getting something nice for his woman.

When he spots the flash of red hair, he freezes, thinking for half a split nanosecond that he's seeing a brother but then....

"--- Mother?"

It's barely squeaked.

Well, she knows that voice. She knows all the voices, and while her surprise is apparent, her pleasure is as well. She smiles at him, by now expecting her family a bit more, expression brighter than, though he can't know this, it's been in years.

"Hello, Moryo."

She doesn't move toward him, though, perhaps uncertainties of her own yet lingering.

He hesitates a little, shifting from one foot to the other - boyishly, which isn't very much like him. "--- Hello, mother."

This -- wasn't what he expected. And it's good, don't get us wrong, but it's also very unsettling.

Good things don't generally come to Caranthir, he thinks. And well. He hasn't been a good boy. (But is he ever?)

Awww, says the motherly part of her brain, and she tilts her head slightly. "Well? Aren't you going to come here so I can see you properly?" Gently, though, and her eyes linger on his face - the scar on his cheek - a little sadly.

Her baby. And part of her is just reminded all over again of how much it hurt to hear of their deaths and part of her is just glad that they are here.
