If Maledisant should happen to wander out into the back gardens, she will find Hisoka practicing with the katana. A large wooden deck is laid between rows of flowering shrubs and bushes, and his feet move deftly across it. He is in his jeans and a tank top, and his feet are bare. The sword gleams in the sunlight, whirling in spirals around the swiftly moving, slender, wiry figure.

"Been there, done that," says Hisoka.

In a manner of speaking, anyway. Shinigami are in it for eternity...that is, so long as they don't get killed again, as Hisoka did. He was reborn into a second life and was human again. Sort of.

"Are you a musician or a singer yourself?" he wonders. Perhaps the reason for her antipathy lies in a difference in musical tastes? rotfl

"No, though I have the voice of an angel, compared to you."

"Really? How do you know you have the voice of an angel? Do you sing in the shower?"

"No," Maledisant says, sarcastically. "I sing the praises of all the strong and valiant men around me. As all kind and courteous ladies do."

"I see," he says. "Whose praises do you sing? What brave knight has most lately inspired your admiration and musical talents?"

"You, of course," Maledisant says. "Since you're so tall, strong, and gallant."

Though her tone of voice implies that none of these things are true.

"Oh?" says Hisoka, looking wholly pleased and flattered. "Pray, sing your ballad! Let's hear it!"

Maledisant turns her nose up. "I only sing when I have a worthy audience."

"Oh, alas, I am not found worthy," laments Hisoka.

But he quickly brightens. "All the same, you should remember my name, even if only for its unworthiness. I am Hisoka Kurosaki of the Lake Clan, a shipwight and a warrior. You might someday need a boat built or an enemy's head cracked. May I know what noble and beautiful lady (even if she has the tongue of an adder) graces me with her attention?"

"You may not," Maledisant says. "I don't share my name with such simple-minded boors."

"Then I wil have to make one up," says Hisoka.

Maledisant actually looks amused, at that. "Oh? And what are you going to call me, pray tell?"

She's used to people giving her new names. Lancelot did the same thing.

"I was thinking Lucrezia Borgia," answers Hisoka.

Maledisant has no idea who that is, of course. The typist, on the other hand, is highly amused.

"And who are you naming me after? Some common and unremarkable woman?"
