The one thing Maledisant's discovered about being married is that it doesn't make that much difference to anything. The people around her are still, for the most part, foolish and insufferable, only one of them is now her husband. The only real change are the lands that have been gifted to said husband, though they're not nearly as wide and ( Read more... )

Medraut's outside wandering, as he usually spends his time, when he spots the young woman on the horse. It takes him a moment to realise who it is -- it's been many years since he's seen Maledisant, and it feels like some strange past dream now, much of what happened to him back home.

He stares. He can't believe she's here -- he doesn't want to believe she's here, stuck in this stupid place.

"-- lady?" he says, in a wild, unsure tone.

His face is full of a odd mixture of disbelief, grief, and somewhere behind it all a little bit of happiness. For as much as he doesn't want her to be stuck here, it's always nice to see an old friend when you're lonely.

"Aye," Maledisant says, a little sharply. "Have I grown a second head?"

Even though she can already tell that there's something odd going on here (Medraut looks older than when she last saw him, unless the typist's estimations are way off), she's still going to make fun of the way he's looking at her. It is just too good a chance to pass up.

"I would that were so," Medraut says. He sounds worried. "That might be easier to deal with, I expect. For you, at least. I'm not how the rest of us would manage, had you two tongues."

He sighs. It's probably for the best that he's the one to tell her what's happened to her -- she'll probably be less nasty to him than she might to someone else. "Well. Do you know where you are?"

"Yes," Maledisant says, shortly. Some of the irritation is genuine, now. "I'm on a horse, in a field, next to an ugly house and an equally ugly man."

Seriously, Medraut. Get to the point.

Later on, perhaps, Maledisant might find a young woman in the common room, reading a book on music theory. It's just another typical day for Natalie, and she's trying to learn something new, though she sometimes feels like she's learned everything possible about the subject.

Maledisant's been exploring the Mansion, and so far she's not very impressed with what she's found. So, when she walks into the common room, she's already feeling a little irritated.

"Are you somebody's fool?" she asks, when she spots Natalie. She's never seen modern dress before, hence the question.

She puts the book down.

"Uh, what?" She raises an eyebrow, confused by the question.

"You're dressed like somebody's fool," Maledisant elaborates, bluntly.

If Maledisant should happen to wander out into the back gardens, she will find Hisoka practicing with the katana. A large wooden deck is laid between rows of flowering shrubs and bushes, and his feet move deftly across it. He is in his jeans and a tank top, and his feet are bare. The sword gleams in the sunlight, whirling in spirals around the swiftly moving, slender, wiry figure.

She wanders out later, when she's had enough of exploring the house and wants to take a look at something else. (This doesn't take very long, since she only looked through a few rooms before deciding they were all much the same and of no particular interest to her). She isn't particularly impressed with the gardens, either, but at least they're less ugly.

Someone practising with a sword is a familiar sight, even if Hisoka is dressed differently than she's used to. Which means she's had lots of practice coming up with insults for this sort of situation.

"Do you guard this place?" she asks, coming up behind him without any greeting or attempt to get his attention. "I think we'll all be murdered by brigands in our sleep."

She's insulting your swordsmanship, Hisoka.

Maledisant already has his attention, since he has eyes in the back of his head when he's in practice mode.

"And they'll undoubtedly start with you," he answers. Cheerfully.

Maledisant finds that amusing, actually. She smiles just a bit. "Aye, well, at least I won't have to put up with having such uncourteous guards any longer."

Like the snake of his namesake, Oberyn is lounging comfortably in the sun, on the stairs, eyes closed and just...soaking up sunshine. At ease, comfortable, and not looking terribly dangerous at all.

He'd love to play with you.

Maledisant's returning from exploring the gardens (she was, of course, unimpressed), and she stops when she realises there's someone on the stairs.

"What's this?" she asks. "An able-bodied man lazing in the sun while this place is unguarded and vulnerable? Shame on you."

Oberyn opens one eye, and then the other when the first eye approves of what it sees, and stretches just a touch exaggeratedly. "I would never dream of lazing in the sun if I thought there might be a threat to duel. At the moment, however...are you telling me I must fear you, lady?" His grin is teasing, rather than condescending, an invitation to play a little.

"No," Maledisant says, shortly. "But these woods look like they must be full of brigands, and no one here has taken it upon themselves to guard the house. I fear I might not survive a single night here."

Perhaps Maledisant has been at the Mansion for some time, or perhaps she's still new, but if she walks into the kitchen, she'll find Millicent staring into the kitchen's special cupboard with an intense frown. This house won't help her with anything, it never grants her wishes. It's not fair and not for the first time has she contemplated burning the entire place to the ground.

Maledisant walks in like she owns the place. "Has the cupboard displeased you?" she asks, with a faint hint of mockery in her words. She clearly thinks it's silly for someone to be frowning so intently at the kitchen furnishings.

Millicent stares at her a long moment, and actually considers spitting on her but instead flashes a wicked smile. "I suppose you think you're oh so clever," she replies, lifting her chin haughtily.

"Oh, I know I am," Maledisant says, smiling, and looking very pleased with herself.
