Brian is thinking about Dexter. Kind of a lot, actually.

It's also been too long between kills, and he's making plans. After all, he hasn't seen the last one for a while, and having a kill unfinished leaves an unpleasant itch under his skin, a feeling of need running deeper than usual. He knows who he's going to take, but nonetheless ( Read more... )

Here's Hisoka, who in his first life was the victim of a serial killer. Not that he's particularly victim-like, anymore. He is standing among trees that would be flowering if this were spring, but whose leaves are now mostly fallen -- although a few faded yellow ones still cling to the branches. The flowerbeds are full of dry stalks. There will be a sparkle of frost on the stone walks before the evening is through. Hisoka is looking up at the stars through his binoculars.

No, not particularly. Brian looks at everyone as a potential victim, and Hisoka...does not read as particularly appealing, but he files him under 'potential challenge.' For later. Wrapped in a winter coat, Brian is actually startled by the cold, having spent most of his life in Florida.

"Seems cold out for stargazing," he observes, drawing up alongside Hisoka, voice light and perfectly innocent. As always.

"It's never too cold for stargazing," answers Hisoka. "I was a navigator at one time, and I never lose interest. What about you? What brings you out on a chilly night?" He lowers the binocs and glances sideways at the stranger.

"Restless, I suppose," Brian says with complete honesty. He is restless. And he doesn't like it. "Sometimes this place feels too small."

"It does, to me, too," answers Hisoka. "Sometimes the walls just close around me, and I have to get outside. I'm Hisoka Kurosaki, by the way."

"Rudy Cooper," he says, offering a hand from inside his coat to shake. "I think it's the whole - not being able to leave. Even in a small town there's other places to go. Though I suppose this might be better than the alternative."

Hisoka takes the hand and gives Brian a firm handshake. "Pleased to meet you, Mr. Cooper! Yes, not being able to leave is a problem. What alternative is this better than?"

Brian learned long ago to play off what he has. "Rudy, please," he says, with an innocent and slightly awkward smile, and then glances slightly aside. It's a worthy performance. "Well..."

He tilts his head back, so that the thin line of the scar across his throat is visible. "I can't say I know exactly, but belief-wise I'd be inclined to think it'd probably be less pleasant than here."

"Jeez, you're dead," observes Hisoka. "Well, I see what you mean, Rudy. I have taken part in discussions of whether or not the Mansion is a sort of afterlife...a second chance. I do not believe it myself, although I am dead myself. Do you have an opinion?"

An afterlife for those who have seriously screwed up, that is.

"So I am," Brian says, regretfully. It's really a pity, what Dexter did. Ruins so much. He had so many plans. "I guess I don't know. But I don't know that it matters to me either. This place is pleasant enough, and I feel relatively alive - what difference would it ultimately make? I guess I've never believed in an afterlife, but I suppose one never knows."

Hisoka nods. "I have to agree with you about the desirability of this place as opposed to some others that I, for one, could think of! And mabye all that matters is what we do while we're here?"

"Indeed," Brian says, with a bit of a smile. "I have to think so."

What he does. Hm.
