I went to campus for Matt Thorn's lecture at the 4th Annual UF Conference on Comics. Comics and Childhood was the overall topic this year. I heard from Kelsey that apparently UF has fairly notable comic studies program - who knew?

I wish I could take his real classes at Kyoto-Seika University - but obviously I speak no Japanese (sniiiif).

I always bust out Advance Wars DS when I'm waiting/riding the bus back home, public image be damned. I must confess, I didn't take the DS out when there was a Japanese guy sitting on the bus playing some mondo bizarro anime-like DJ game on his palm PC very, very loudly. I mean, that was too much, even for me!

I did play a bit while I was sitting in the food court.. but somehow I still hope there is a big difference between me and the kind of person who will play a "monda bizarro anime-like DJ game" loudly in public. ^^;
Of course, I'll read manga in public... but I draw the line at looking unbathed/badly dressed or obsessively playing FF games where others can see me.
