you're killing me, Smalls

May 30, 2010 15:40

Here is why I try never to watch The Sandlot when it turns up on cable: Invariably it leaves me wanting to write slash. No shock there, just as it will come as a surprise to no one at all that I want to write Benny/Smalls slash. I'm sure there's already some out there, but I'm kind of scared to look for it, for the same reason that I keep ( Read more... )

IKR? Perhaps I will even get it sewn in time to wear this weekend!

That would be pretty speedy of you. :)

Well, skirts only take like an hour or two, depending on the pattern.

Hey, what's the name of that place where we're staying again? I can't recall.

It's just too disappointing to discover that people are writing the pairing you want to read about, only to discover that the people writing them aren't that good at it.

MY.
LIFE.

And because I'm a spiteful person, my reaction to this tends to be "Well, fine, if you won't write me decent fic for this pairing, I'll do it myself. IN MY HEAD WHERE YOU CAN NEVER READ IT."

My knee-jerk reaction is to write fic and post it, then not get any comments at all because it's not bad enough, which further embitters me. Then I come back here and I'm all passive-aggressive behind a f-lock. Because that's what LJ is for.

You know why that is? Because to people who write bad fic, stumbling upon good fic is so overwhelming and shocking a reminder of the inferiority of their own writing that they have no choice but to curl up under their desks and/or drink themselves into a stupor. Which is why they don't comment.

Yes.

Shut up, that is *so* how the world works.

Well, that's what I tell myself so I don't throw a hissy fit and storm out of fandom every time it happens, so I'm not going to argue with you.

(Happy birthday, btw.)

I am not gonna lie, about 25% of the reason I'm replying is just to use my icon. It's so appropriate! Smalls was so silly in love with Benny and they didn't even try to hide it. Even Benny's unfortunate mustache at the end didn't break my hardcore crush on that pairing.

What's with the 30 days of creativity? I've been looking for something to jump start my complete brain dead lack of ambition so it might be nice to have ... well... Guidelines. Who knows, maybe it'll help?

That's a great icon. And truly, Sandlot is one of the slashier films out there. Benny/Smalls is Actual Canon, as I am reminded every time I see it. I mean, ffs, the thumbs up at the end? It's pretty obvious who put the ring on Scotty's finger, is what I'm saying, and he's sporting an unfortunate pornstache.

Near as I can tell, the only guideline is 'do something creative every day in June'. There are no hard and fast rules as to what counts as 'creative', so you can pretty much do whatever you like. They're on Twitter and Facebook. You can 'pledge' by tweeting @createstuff, if you want, or you can just go for it in your LJ, I suppose.

My childhood WAS The Sandlot film over and over again, or as we knew it over here, The Sandlot Kids. God, I love that film so much. Still have it on VHS.

It's such a sweet movie. I'd forgotten how much I love it.

I hit the pattern sale today myself. I think the first I'll do is make a roman shade for my office. Anyway. But I got some skirt and top patterns too.

Today I made a "Victorian Collar" scarflet thing for my costume. And I need to get back to my skirt, but the waistband is next and I'm kind of avoiding it (kind of like exercise this weekend!).

Anyway. I'm happy you're going to try 30 Days of Creativity. I think I will too.

I love that madras plaid!

I bought, no lie, 20 patterns this weekend. 20! And they were out of stock on two that I wanted, so I only got 9 today. I bought 11 on Friday, but one of them was New Look.

I am quite looking forward to seeing this costume when you're done. And I am curious how much you spent on fabric; it can't have been cheap.

My fabric is drying as I type! I would start cutting out tonight, but I told my sister I'd come over and finally watch Sherlock Holmes. Tomorrow's soon enough, I suppose.

I went looking about a year ago - its NOT good and there's only like TWO FICS. Which is why YOU should write some because you're fucking brilliant with small fandoms. Hell, your fic is why I bought the Forsake - so I could know wtf you were talking about. But dude, they grew up and had this whole *hands* adults together thing. You can't convince me they're not secretly waiting for Benny to retire so they can get married in Iowa. I will give you pretty much anything you want if you write them. No. Seriously. Anything.
