Happy birthday to sunfire1216! I know you celebrated yesterday, but I hope today is nice too, in spite of having to work.

The artist of the day is El Vez, aka The Mexican Elvis, with a pretty fun version of Feliz Navidad:

El Vez -- Feliz Navi-Nada

Day 27 → This month, in great detail

Let's just get this over with, shall we? )

A good, solid month! It's good that you're back with the running club. You'll meet new friends that can't be as strange as the work friends. That would be impossible. They may drag you into other social arrangements...kicking and screaming no doubt...and pretty you'll have a whole new circle of friends. Just don't forget us virtual ones!

Running club is good for me. Running club is good for me. Running club is good for me...

(I would probably enjoy it more if it weren't in the 30s here most mornings.)

I would never forget you guys. I put more of myself here than anywhere else, after all. It's my safe place.

You have a dedication to your well-being that I really admire. Readding all your milestones makes it seem like getting healthy is a real possibility for someone like me [read: self-doubting procrastinator with no esteem to speak of]. I've also been toying with the idea of Buddhism. Is that book any good as a starting off point?

I have total faith in you, just so you know. You're an amazing person with a warm and generous heart and you have a lot to offer the world. So I will believe in you until you can believe in yourself.

(self-doubting procrastinator with no esteem to speak of -- this described me to a T just three years ago, just so you know)

As for the book, yes, I think it's a great place to start. It comes at Buddhism from the POV of a lapsed Catholic, which helps with all the 'how do I fit this into my Christian background' questions, and shows others who make their faith work in two separate traditions. It's not easy, but I think it's possible.

He also gives a lot of good recommendations for further reading, and he's funny, which helps. So many books on Buddhism are really hard to grasp, just because of the philosophy itself, so finding this one has made me feel a lot less stupid.

It catches me off guard sometimes, to realize that people - friends like you - actually believe in me. It's hard to think anyone believes in you when you can't believe in yourself, but that just something I have to get past. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

And that book sounds pretty awesome. I think I'm going to give it a try.
