as excited as I am to be seeing the show, I know it's best for me to be kinda cautious in reading stuff about the revival. I must be wary of anything that would potentially piss me off or upset me, and people can be total asses about The Music Man, I've already witnessed it in the past month alone.
but it's all turned out to be worth it because this morning I read this:
ok so I would find this amusing if anybody had said this because I have literally never seen anybody use that kind of language in regards to The Music Man before... but Barbara Cook said it? I pretty much screamed and I've been goofily gleeful about it all day
it's just so startlingly blunt and earthy and accurate and I love it. this could only be better if she'd mentioned Marian specifically but seeing as she WAS Marian I feel like we can extrapolate from this!
so we're all in agreement that Harold Hill being extremely devastatingly sexy, and the formerly-repressed, virginal Marian realizing she wants to jump his bones every single day forever, has been absolute canon since 1957, right? good!! anyone who doesn't see HM as a highly erotic couple is just outright wrong.
wait is this the universe giving me permission to write my "Dirty Words" story about the first time Harold accidentally blurts out the f-word with Marian?
...probably not, probably such a story would be an affront to God, the universe, and everything, but it still might happen because it is my destiny
