With my cube-neighbors listening to "Sweeney Todd" (Broadway Cast Version, not the film soundtrack, thank goodness), I have to ponder:

Between "Sweeney Todd", "Eating Raoul", "Scotland, PA", and even "Soylent Green" I have to wonder why in all these films where people eat other people (whether they know it or not) we're always really tasty ( Read more... )

I think it's supposed to represent condescension/how easily we look down at others "below" us.

Actually, "Scotland, PA" didn't have any cannibalism. But I see your point; why is human meat always so... tasty? I think because it does add the "forbidden fruit" angle to the funniest of the taboos ( ... )

True, but -to the best of my recollection- the soylent green was more popular than the soylent red or soylent yellow. Which means that people are tasty. ;P

Which reminds me of this time my mom got me these soy nuggets at the store, and they were ten kinds of horrible. They were shaped like people, and when you bit into them they had green soy inside. It was a little too "Soylent Green is people!" for me. They tasted bad, but the fact that they were green and shaped like people definitely upped the ick factor. I only finished one and threw the rest away.
