book review: Life of Pi

I felt the same way after reading The Alchemist. I must just not be in the right place to read that sort of fiction.

I loved The Alchemist, though I did read it when I was in my early twenties, so maybe that had something to do with it.

"The Alchemist" (Earlier. I'm-a doi. Great lil' parable piece ala' "La Petit Prince". "Special Topics in Calamity Physics" (Upon "Mo's insistence. I was "Meh". A genius sixteen year old at the heart of a murder/suicide mystery, the ramblings of her poncey high-falutin' brainiac dick of a dad who she adores, mixed with "Heathers", mixed with a gazillion faux-cited sources? Took me longer to digest than I wanted and was non-plussed by the ending) "The Shining" (Palate cleanser. And NOT one to read late at night when you have insomnia. IJS. That book was...really good. Even for King) and have now started "Mr Norrell and Jonathan Strange". I hope to do better with THAT one.

I'm surprised you even finished it! I picked it up while backpacking in South America, desperate for reading material, and politely returned it to its owner after grinding through 5 pages of it.

Isn't it weird how bestsellers so often blow? I always wonder what exactly I'm missing...

Well, I will sheepishly admit that I skimmed sections.
