we lost a dream we never had;

Convinced that he couldn't have been too drunk (he was walking in what he thought was a straight line), Bakura had decided to drop in on Shizuka. How long had it been since he'd seen her anyway? He'd been caught up with his new profession that he hadn't paid much attention to life outside of it. Then again, he wasn't sure he had much of a life ( Read more... )

Shizuka's eyed were glued to the clock on her bedside table, watching as the minutes changed and mentally counting down the hours until Kaiba would likely be home. Another night of silence and an empty bed ( ... )

Out of the men in Shizuka's life, Bakura realized that he wasn't exactly one of her favorites. She wasn't her brother, who was apparently a deadbeat, and he wasn't her boyfriend, who was apparently a douchebag. Instead, he was just someone who tended to come and go, in her eyes what must have appeared to be a sporadic manner.

He gave her a lopsided grin when she answered the door, stepping inside before he turned in and greeted her, "Hello, Princess~" He held up the bag which contained a six pack of beer (cheap, but he wasn't exactly a man of high taste). "Want to get plastered with me?"

In reality, she wasn't someone he'd normally turn to to get drunk with. She'd made it more than clear that she didn't approve of his drinking habits, but just like it had been with Anzu, the words went straight over Bakura's head. That wasn't really an excuse for why he was waving it in her face right now, but he was lacking good judgment at the moment.

Shizuka gave a start, then closed the door behind him, almost as if she were afraid to have her neighbors overhear. "Plastered?" she repeated, sounding like a well-trained bird mimicking her master. She had no idea what was in that bag, but knowing Bakura, it likely wouldn't even be enough for him, let alone the both of them.

Wait, had she just actually considered his impromptu offer? Was she really that upset?

Biting her lower lip, she tilted her head, the temptation writ plain upon her features. There likely wasn't enough alcohol to get them both tanked - though it was terribly obvious that Bakura'd already started the party without her - and what harm could come from one or two drinks? She didn't have to get drunk, of course. Just...mellow.

Maybe then, her life wouldn't bother her so much.

Inhaling sharply, she eyed him for a moment, as if afraid he'd bite. "Okay."

Nodding, Bakura moved without her permission and plopped down on her couch. He should probably kick his shoes off... After a moment, he did that, leaving them on the rug, unaware of how disrespectful he always ended up being. Then again, even if he'd been aware, he wouldn't have cared.

He looked up at her again, surprised to see that she was actually considering it. Logically, he realized that something must have been wrong, and that he'd walked into her life again when she was feeling bad about something. For a moment, he contemplated asking her about it but quickly settled on helping her the only way he knew how.

The way he helped himself. Pulling the six pack out of the bag, he got a beer and held it out to her. "It probably tastes horrible, but after you've had a couple, that won't matter." Hey, it always worked for him.
