"Can you show me, dear, something I've not seen? Something infinitely interesting?"

The magician didn't care about how much the ticket cost, how inconvenient the time was, or how security seemed to be more troublesome than usual due to the attack on Deir el-Bahri. Only one person was on his mind the entire flight. That person needed him and he was determined to be there for her.

Not that he aspired to be some kind of "knight in ( Read more... )

The city seemed so empty in the early hours of the morning. The night had barely left, the streets would fill soon, showing those who would walk to work, school, continue their lives as if the previous day had never happened. Staring at the faint sunlight, sitting silently in the backseat of the embassy car, Isis couldn’t help but watch the images playing in her mind over and over again ( ... )

At first as his eyes scanned the crowd, he couldn't see Isis. The head coverings worn by the muslin women of this age made everyone slightly blend into one another. Then Mahaado turned around and recognized her face.

Thank you, Gods, he couldn't help but praise in his mind. Carefully navigating through the small sea of people, he hurried as quickly as he could to Isis's side.

She really was all right. Well, probably not emotionally, but she was safe. And here, with him. Relief washed over him, a little reprieve from the worry that he knew he had felt during the entire flight despite Isis admonishing him to not worry.

He was there. He was really there, uncaring of the distance he had just travelled for her. Isis didn't even have to force her smile, like she had done that morning after raising to face the day. She was happy. Happy for his caring, for his presence, for the fact the Gods had been merciful enough to grant such a gift, even when she thought she was undeserving.

A small part of her mind - drowned quickly under propriety - wished she could hug him, do something that would show just how much she had appreciated his gesture.

Isis settled in smiling. "Welcome home," she said simply.

Mahaado smiled warmly, completely dropping his neutral mask. She had always had that effect on him, as if it was perfectly all right to not hide anything, and it was soothing.

In a heartbeat. He had meant what he said.

"I'm glad to see you," he replied geniunely. His suitcase hit against his leg once as he switched it to his nondominant left hand so that he could offer his right arm, a quiet suggestion to lead the way.
