[[ OOC || NSFW on account of smut. ]]Had it not been for Miyoko and his actually wanting to see her, Bakura wouldn't have even thought about calling Anzu. The woman was more headache than she was worth and it wasn't as if they even moderately liked talking to each other anymore. In fact, it was probably accurate to say they couldn't stand one ( Read more... )

Anzu was just getting Miyoko to sleep when she heard her cell phone start ringing in the living room as she crept out of the nursery and picked up the phone to check the caller id.

It read 'Bakura'

She couldn't believe he actually called. Part of her wanted to believe this was nothing more than a cruel, cruel joke, but she had to think of Miyoko and what this was going to be about.

She sighed, flipping open the phone and putting it to her ear "Hello?"

Hearing her voice was all the more inspiration for him to just hang up and move on with his life. It was so obvious, even to him, that this was a bad idea.

"Hey there~" he greeted as he selected a beer can and cracked it open, taking a long sip before speaking again. "How are you?"

He actually didn't care, but it was common courtesy, right?

He couldn't do anything without drinking could he? I guess that was his way of being 'normal'. How in the world had they ever been together knowing all this? How the heck had she ever fallen for such a person...him.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda...the past is the past and this was now. They weren't together anymore, so what did it matter what he did in his spare time?

"I'm fine, thanks...," she found her mouth dry as she licked her lips. Why couldn't she speak normally? "Um...so...I'm not sure if you're aware, but our daughter's turning one next month and I'm planning a party..."

"Is she?" he asked and it was clear that he was actually surprised by this. Had that much time passed already? Fuck. "Huh."

His response probably wasn't the one she was looking for, but in his opinion, there wasn't much else to say. He did, however, think of something else, "People in this time period buy gifts for birthdays or something, don't they?"

Anzu looked over everything to make sure all was in place. The steaks were about done - she wasn't much of a steak person, but once in a while was ok. She made sure Bakura's was mostly raw and a little bloody (cringe), but hers well done. She had salad and dinner rolls. She was a bit anxious about this, but...she also included champagne with their meal.

Miyoko was giggling happily in her walker playing with some of her toys and everything as Anzu went and kissed her on top of her head hearing a knock on the door.

Again, Bakura had wrestled with the idea of just not showing up. He'd managed to slip out of the house without Malik causing a fuss, though, so he might as well go all the way. One visit with Anzu wouldn't be the end of the world and he really did believe that being around her might help him find the Items. Around her, around her stupid friends, whatever. If the Ring could pick something up, wouldn't that make all of this worth it?

Bakura hadn't bothered dressing up and was instead in a plain gray sweatsuit. Knocking on the door a few times, he pulled back and waited for her to answer it.

As Anzu answered the door, she gave him a small smile. "Hey," she said as she stepped aside so he could enter. Glancing over his outfit as she closed the door behind him. "You look like you're trying to hide from the cops or something" she chuckled, teasing him.

"Maybe I am," Bakura replied, teasing back, as he stepped into the apartment. Fuck, he could not remember the last time he'd stepped foot inside anywhere that Anzu was living. It felt awkward and that nervous feeling he so rarely got resurfaced quickly.

He was lucky that Malik hadn't been too hard on him, so save for the black eye (and the small scratch on his forehead), there was no real visible sign of damage.
