I always find it interesting when older books (before the 1970s) are written with a female as the lead because they often, especially when written by a female, hold up in terms of story line, themes, etc. while books with male leads and written by male authors, don't. Does this book seem to follow that?
This is an interesting point. As I've reread books from my youth up thru my college years, I've been shocked at the misogyny that I didn't really pick up on before. So this might be related to your observation. In this case, the books are somewhat dated but not so it spoils the enjoyment, IMO....
