Some stories have plots that are so universal they work and I'm glad the writer was able to break into the professional market by revamping that old story
I was just thinking about this the other day. Like, there's a meme or whatever that's like "ship where one is calm and level headed and the other is like fight me!" and that describes like 50 ships. Like, there's a huge universality to types of relationships. And also, in character or note, each fic writer has their own take on a characters' voice, backstory, etc. that I think once names and settings are changed, it's easy enough to be separate from the original source.
Like, I started writing a mystery series and at first I felt paralyzed, like, I've seen 1,001 mystery things and how could I possibly keep all of it out of my books?! But then I also realized that literally everything has been done by multiple sources and people just have their own spin on things. So, basically, that ole truism "there's nothing new under the sun," y'all, there's literally nothing new. It's all just
( ... )
Wasn't there a saying that there are only a finite number of plots? It is what you do with that plot that makes it different to all the other stories out there :)
