First off, points for admitting to being a bit of a snob. I really appreciate that.

The publishing industry has been the gatekeepers for so long. We're at a point where not only anyone can publish works on their own but essentially anyone can start a publishing company. Do you see any sort of change coming to the industry? It definitely has it's problems, one of the biggest being that it's not terribly diverse.

But do I think it should be published? No, I don't.

This is making me think about what we're defining as published. Are you saying fanfic shouldn't be posted/shared at all?

My main issues with publishing is its own workforce and then the books they publish. I have heard horror stories from people who have tried to have their book published by a major house and have it rejected because the books main character was non-white! To me that's outrageous and needs to be fixed asap.

No, I think fanfic should be shared but I can't stand seeing people say oh I wrote a book and put it someplace like watpad and call it published.

As I said, I'm not a huge of an fanfic being published as books because fanfic is ripping off someone else's ideas. Now if it's fanfic off of stuff that's in open domain that's a little different but stuff that's under copyright? not cool

Okay, I get what you're saying. I'll agree that there's a difference between writing a novel length work and publishing a book. They're definitely two different processes.

And I'm also pretty much with you on the publishing of things written originally as fanfic. It's just kind of a gross thing to do let alone pretty much illegal.
