They were on separate journeys, but it was hard to feel truly apart when their lives felt so parallel. And that feeling was harder. It would have been better to feel nothing, to allow the distance to make its presence truly known. It would have been better to have gone about their separate days without constant reminders, but everything was a reminder: a particular shade of vermillion, a soft word spoken in just such a way. Everything was her. Everything was him.
Song: Fog (Again) - Radiohead Fandom: Water for Elephants (August/Marlena - movie version) Word Count: 94
When they'd first met, he was the man of her dreams. He was kind, charming, witty, handsome…basically everything anyone could have ever asked for. He still had his good looks about him - if anything, those had gotten better as the years had gone on - but something in his personality changed somewhere along the way. She didn't know what it was or why it had happened. Was it the stress of trying to keep the circus running? Is that what had turned her once perfect August into…this, violent, angry, and jealous?
Song: Afterlife - Arcade Fire (So, I think I interpreted the song wrong, but oh well. It's still a beautiful song and I got a (hopefully) decent fic idea out of it. :P) Fandom: A Royal Affair (Johann/Caroline) Word Count: 103
The last thing she saw as her life flashed before her eyes was him. Johann. Oh, how she had loved him. How she wished things had turned out differently for both of them, but especially him. He didn't deserve to die. He wasn't supposed to die. She had begged her husband, the King himself, to pardon him and as far as she knew, he had granted them that mercy. What happened? She felt the darkness that was overtaking her being replaced by a different kind of lightness…and when she opened her eyes, he was the first thing she saw, beautiful as ever.
I wanted to do one from HIS perspective so bad (because I don't like to think about him dying LOL), but that song came up and it begged for me to shamelessly rip off the ending of Titanic. :P
His life was hidden behind a wall. The life of Grant Ward agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. was a fantasy, a boy who broke free of years of trauma and abuse and became a dashing hero. It was a life he wanted.
The wall is gone, the world knows he is. Grant Ward, Agent of HYDRA, traitor...killer and...monster. Grant closes his eyes for a moment, lamenting how he lost the fantasy and faces the brutal reality of his sins and who he is.
It’s the same dream with different scenarios every night.
Fragments of memories Bucky has been trying to collect since breaking free from Hydra His ghost from his past is always there. Sometimes he’s small and twiggy, others he is big and muscular. Sometimes they are running through the streets, others they make love gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes.
But then it ends. Bucky falls into the abyss as the ghost screams his name.
His eyes open abruptly, crashing into reality. But when he turns his head he sees...Steve, that’s what his name is, laying contently asleep. Bucky smiles slightly.

Back then it was easy to wear the mask.

Maybe some nightmares have happy endings.
