My comfort zone is writing, so I'm always excited to see what I can do to participate for my team. However truth be told it’s rare for me to write drabbles it’s just not my thing. This and the last challenge were drabbles - I'm wondering if there will be more upcoming writing challenges other than the standard fair of drabbles? Maybe some holiday fare... Look forward to see what other challenges come up =)

Notes: In honor of actor Ron Glass, who portrayed Book with such slightly-ominous grace and mystery, and who died just last week. This is a remix of a drabble I wrote years ago, inspired by justunravel, for Firefly100. The prompt there was "sign."
[Spoiler (click to open)]He stands in front of the battered wooden door, closed only with an iron latch, sets his leather rucksack on the ground and pauses for a moment. Reaches up to touch the nameplate on the door frame. Synthpaper, but good quality. Took some special effort to produce this--more expensive than a mini-vidscreen. Something he hadn't seen in years, not since the last fancy retro restaurant back in more triumphant days. He looks a little closer--quite seemingly genuine, like the ink of the hand-lettering on it: Derrial Book. He smiles to himself. Paper, not real paper; ink, not real ink. ( ... )
