Why autumn is my favorite season (picspam)

Oct 24, 2010 16:03

Because today was just an indescribably perfect October day here in Virginia, I was inspired to post a few pix to show those of you on my f-list who live in the sunny South the payoff we Northerners get for suffering through those chilly winter months. The pix aren't mine, alas, but they are all from around where I live:

BEAUTIFUL!!!

*sigh* It's really hard for any state to beat Virginia, imo, for having four drop-dead gorgeous seasons (PA is a close second, I think, it's just that their winters last a wee bit too long for this thin-blooded Southern girl! *g*). And a Williamsburg pic just for me?! Awwww, I love it! Just seeing those photos reminds me of having cider by the fireplace in the Williamsburg Lodge, then cycling home over a carpet of red and gold leaves. You're totally right- those glorious autumn colors really are worth the cold winters!

Glad you're enjoying that beautiful fall weather, Debbie. And hope you're having some baklava with that cider! ;-)

LOL at your icon, Dawn! It's perfect! I'm glad Hyacinth approves. *BG*

I've got to agree with you about Virginia, even though I'm PA born-and-bred. Not only is the countryside pretty enough to inspire poetry (not to mention music--there actually IS a "Virginia Symphony," believe it or not), but it's got all that fascinating history behind it, too. I would have LOVED to cycle through the leaf-strewn streets of Williamsburg on a day like yesterday!

As for the baklava....I'm, um, still nibbling around the edges. *Blushes* I've been spending a lot of time this weekend worrying about Mom, which hasn't helped my concentration. (She's OK, but not progressing at all, so I'm trying to explore other care options.)

Hope you're enjoying autumn in NOLA! It may not have the fall foliage, but you don't have to worry about shoveling the sidewalk in a month or two. :)

Oh, no! I'm sorry to hear your Mom isn't doing as well as you'd hoped! She's back in Pennsylvania now, isn't she? I know that must make it more difficult for you, because you have to travel back and forth, trying to find the right place for her. I wish I had some words of advice. I actually knew of a wonderful elder-care facility in Carlisle, PA, but then... I know she doesn't live in Carlisle. :-( Are there any nice places near D.C. that she would be willing to try?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, and try to rack my brain to see if I can remember any other places from PA or Virginia.

Mom's still in Pgh in a rehab unit attached to an assisted-living facility. She's hanging in there, but she just doesn't seem to be getting stronger, which could easily be bc she's not eating a lot and she's depressed. All the same, I'm concerned that her doctor hasn't bothered to go see her for THREE full weeks and hasn't returned any of my 3 calls to his office. I finally managed to locate his personal cell phone # from a time last month when he'd called me, and he promised to go see her today. I'm sure he will, but I'm seriously considering looking for another doctor. That's one of those "care options" I said I was exploring right now ( ... )

It is a lovely country you live in. I live in sunny California where it actually rained today (much needed, not complaining)... and somehow the rainstorms we've unexpectedly had this October are keeping things green!

Thanks for sharing those beautiful photos! The hot cider sounds good, too!

California is another one of my favorite states, bc it's got pretty much everything, from the ocean to the mountains to the desert, and everything in between. I'm glad to hear you got enough rain to keep the mountains green, but I also hope the sun comes out for you soon! :)
