15 Griffin Way, Sunday Evening

Jul 08, 2007 18:22

When the evening came, Emma surveyed her queendom and thought it was good. The food had arrived from Ching Tai, her muffins were done and decorated and might even be edible this time around, and the bar was fully stocked - Both with alcohol and weetiny umbrellas.

All that was needed now were the guests.

Emma smoothed down her dress and went to ( Read more... )

Roy grabbed himself a glass of scotch and sipped from it as he observed the room around him.

"Good evening, Sheriff Mustang," said Mary. "Nice party, isn't it?"

"Yes," Roy agreed with a grin, leaning in a bit so he could continue in a lower tone. "It's missing your cake, though."

"It's a shame, isn't it?" said Mary with a chuckle. "At least I have four tiers of cake still left in the freezer at the hotel. I think Gunther and I will be eating cake until my next birthday."

"If you need help with that, you just have to say it," Roy smirked. Yes, he was very willing to sacrifice himself and eat cake.

"Feel free to drop by anytime. I'd enjoy the company," said Mary, smiling.

"I will do so," Roy promised. "Which reminds me that I didn't hear back from you on checking out the hotel. Have things settled down then?"

"They have. I guess I was imagining things. It pretty much stopped once I started actually sleeping. I guess I was really stressed out from the move and imagining things that weren't there," said Mary.

Of course, the overnight desk clerk still disagreed with her, but she'd deal with that later.

"A lack of sleep can do that to you," Roy agreed. He should know, he'd been living on a bare minimum for over a year now. "I'm glad to hear it's going better, though, but the offer still stands either way."

"I'll keep that in mind," said Mary, her I'm-being-brave smile firmly in place. "Hopefully it's just nothing."

"Having the sheriff on speed dial can never hurt," Roy pointed out. "Even if it's to rid you of too much birthday cake."

"I find that in the hotel business, it doesn't hurt to have law enforcement connections because you never know when your guests are going to get out of hand," said Mary. "My friend Luis was a police detective with Metro and he was at the casino every other day working on something."

Of course, that could have been because Luis kept trying to date her and catching scam artists made it convenient for him to drop by.

"I suppose that's true," Roy said thoughtfully. "Did you get a lot of rowdy guests in Las Vegas?"

"Oh, there were plenty of rowdy guests. Las Vegas has this 'anything goes' reputation so people thought they would get away with everything, and that certainly wasn't true," explained Mary. "I got to break up fights, catch casino cheats, and help catch criminals and I wasn't even on the surveillance team. It never got boring, though."

"Doesn't sound like it," Roy agreed, tilting his head as he regarded her. "So did you catch a lot of criminals? If so maybe we should hire you." The last part of course had nothing to do with his ambitions for introducing miniskirts as uniform.

((Ack. *kicks notifications*))

"I caught a couple of casino cheats, a group of housekeepers stealing sheets, towels and televisions from rooms, and people running scams to get their rooms and meals comped. It wasn't a lot, though. Ed and Danny didn't like it when I took chances," said Mary.

It might be a conflict of interest if Mary worked for the police these days since she came to Fandom to hide from the Las Vegas police.
