You see the problem I, as a cancer patient, have with my doctor, who is terrific, is the two giant bureaucracies between us. There is my employers, and there is their insurance company. (They are not MY insurance company. The customer, paying the bills, is my employer. I don't get to pick, although I help pay.) So when anything goes wrong I get not one, but two, sets of faceless desk jockies to deal with.

Now, if it gets really bad, I can threaten to haul their bureaucracy into court. I can't really afford it, but it's a real threat. There's always a John Edwards like lawyer hoping to score with a sympathetic plaintiff.

But obviously the REAL,LONG TERM solution is to clone the DNA of the IRS, the post-office, and the folks in charge of the Branch Davidian extraction at Waco, and create an even larger THIRD bureaucracy in place between the existing two. A giant's giant, who CAN'T be threatened with lawsuits. Sovereign immunity, you see.

Yeah, this'll be just wonderful for everybody.

Yes, it's very clear that the solution to large quasi-private sector bureacracies making medical care expensive and difficult to obtain is to replace them with a government one.
