Downton Abbey and True Blood--

Sep 21, 2012 21:53

Finally got around to watching the first new episode of Downton Abbey. Oh, Downton. I do so love you. Even when I want to smack a couple of your characters upside the head. ♥

Also, after close observation of two seasons...

I'm beginning to think that True Blood is basically soft core porn with plot occasionally sprinkled throughout ( Read more... )

Those are the two shows I've been watching lately, too. I'm a season behind on True Blood because I've only been able to see what's out on DVD; Downton Abbey was a rewatch. I confess I'm so in love with the women's clothes that I get distracted at times; the writing is uneven but I love the characters.

I'm just starting season 3 of True Blood myself. ^_^ The show never took the first time I tried to watch it, but after hanging out with people who got together socially to watch, I sort of ended up interested by proxy.

Oh, Downton is so damn beautiful, I completely agree. Sometimes I can't hear the characters over their costumes and the gorgeous settings. *G*

I just got through s. 4 of True Blood -- which I categorize with The Vampire Diaries as not necessarily *good* but good fun -- and it only gets pornier. I've got a wait now 'til season 5.

I figured out how to stream ITV live from the UK, so I got to see Downton 3.1; of course I'll still watch when it's broadcast here next spring. Although I do love 20s (who doesn't?), I confess to having had a particular infatuation with the 1910s styles of previous seasons.

Ha! Earlier today I was saying to another friend (who has also just started watching True Blood, although she's ahead of me) that The Vampire Diaries is True Blood aimed at the teen set. That's exactly it. If nothing else, True Blood is good fun. ^_^

Oooh, that's great! I'm relying on... other methods of watching it right now, but planning to pick the series up on DVD in the near future. I was thinking a similar thing with this new episode. Of course the styles of the 20s are still beautiful, but I do prefer the Edwardian styles of the past two seasons a little more.

I watched half a season of True Blood during a period of time when my best friend was flailing on a regular basis on the hotness of Alexander Skarsgaard, and I'd like to just say that your first instinct is entirely true. It's totally softcore porn with sprinklings of plot. Oh, HBO.

Sam is adorable, and Pam and Eric are fucking awesome. I would recommend stopping after the second or third season though, because that's when everyone goes to the shits and Sookie becomes a Mary Sue. Also, Beel.

Also, also, do you know that Downton is written by the same guy who played Prince Regent in Sharpe's Regiment? (That's the extent of my Downton knowledge, sorry!)

*facepalm* So, I read that and went "Winchester? Sam? Wot? What's that got to do with anything?"

So, yeah. Clearly, not who I'm invested in?

I LOVE PAM. AND ERIC. andmaybebillidon'tknowyetihaven'twatchedthelastwoeps.

As I'm uneasy downloading from the net these days, I think I will just have to wait until Downton Abbey is on American PBS, (will start in January, I think?). I looked around for a place to stream it from BBC but haven't found any. I'm looking forward to the new season! I got accidentally spoiled for one event, but I don't mind it.
