American Horror Story--

Apr 17, 2012 13:05

I have been watching so much TV lately. So much. (Typical day: Get up, read Flist, talk to friends and family, work, make dinner, eat, work, WATCH ALL THE TV EVER, try to read, sleep badly, start again.) And in the last two days I've watched the entire first season of American Horror Story. Good god. I'm not sure if I was driven by pure escapism, ( Read more... )

Responding only to your tag:
I have been dodging the candidates who come door knocking, because I just can't deal with them right now. (Security building, so only campaigners and official-type people ever knock on my door.) But I've also been waiting for the enumerator to come around for the city census, so every time someone knocks on the door I have to go and listen as they keep knocking down the hall to find out if it's an evil politician. But it was the enumerator today, so I can go back to ignoring desperate doorknocks.

You are a much better Albertan than I am ;)

*snort* No, no, I totally understand. Dad's been telling me how the Parties are calling every. single. day, and he's just plain ignoring them at this point. (He got a call from the Wildrose Party for me a week or so ago, and when he told them I wasn't available, they asked if they could count on my vote, and he laughed and said, "Not likely.") If I was at home, I'd be ignoring them too. And really, I just want to vote so I've done my duty in fruitlessly attempting to unseat the Conservatives again. ^_~

(Sadly, this is going to be one of those vote-against instead of vote-for elections for me, which always bugs me.)

I'm glad you mostly enjoyed the show. ^_^

Thin on plot, yes. Great atmosphere. Writing was uneven. Sometimes it was only average. Other times, there were moments of brilliance.

We liked the same characters, and how nice is it to have a horror series where the female characters are all stronger and more interesting than the men?

I did! I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I did, and really, the rest is just quibbling.

I'm pretty shocked how much better developed the female characters were. I mean, nobody's a perfect person, and most of the characters are pretty awful, male or female, but wow, given that this is the Lust season, I'm beyond surprised that the women were all that well done.

Sometimes, I deliberately tuck my hair back into my coat, because it's cold here and that keeps my neck just that little bit toastier. I thought it was normal, but... maybe it's weird?

Oh! Well, maybe it's just me? I don't like the tug and pull on my hair when it gets trapped like that, so I always flip it outside of whatever I'm wearing, and just go with a scarf to keep the heat in.

I considered watching it because Zach Quinto is (was?) in it and I've always liked Dylan McDermott, but after seeing a preview I had to give up. It's just so totally not my thing, but then horrors or any kind rarely are.

Yep, Zach Q. was in this season (and will be in the next, although in a different role), and he was great. I don't really like Dylan McD., so I was really surprised that I enjoyed his performance! It's definitely a horror story, though, and it plays with all the horror tropes (or at least a lot of them), so if that's not your thing to start with, then you're probably going to want to skip it for sure.
