It's not JUST a real book, it's a Charles Fort book. Which means it's the holy grail of occultists and Lovecraft enthusiasts worldwide, because Charles Fort was a strange, strange man. There's a whole field of anomalous phenomenonphenomenon called 'Fortean' after him. So, ya know, it could be a deliberate nod to someone who's influenced so much thought and writing on the supernatural.
Ha. This was in two different episodes? LOL, I missed that part. I was thinking it just showed up when they searched it and the truth was different.
No, it first came up in 10.11; that's where the first screencap is from. It would have made sense if Charlie had searched for the Fort book and somehow found it wasn't really the book Sam needed, maybe it had a hidden clue about the other book, something along those lines. But no, they had her go to Italy to find a book that's actually in the common domain and available online. And she came home with a book written in blood on a nun's skin instead. :-/
Doesn't matter. It's another thing I'm going to forgive about this episode. :-)
Maybe it's like a paperback version of the Ten Commandments verses the actual tablets from Moses, there's many copies, but only the original will melt a Nazi.
Oh and let's not forget that it was available at a library, like any normal book. :) Of course the version presented in 10x18 is much more dramatic, but probably Thompson hadn't actually thought that far when he wrote 10x11.
