I'm with you. I'm fine with Cas sacrificing himself for Dean because of their special bond from back when he raised him from perdition, and it is canon that Dean greatly influenced Cas and caused him to reject heaven's rule and think for himself, and to view his human friends as family. So they COULD have given us a moving scene in which Cas lays all of that out for Dean, preferably without the horrendous, mawkish over-acting that we got from Misha. But that line about never being able to have what he wants was a steaming pile of crap that came perilously close to ruining the show for me as well. I have never found even an iota of evidence that Cas had romantic feelings for Dean. NOT ONE FREAKING TRACE of evidence. Has he learned to love those who have become family to him? Sure. But that, and his bond with Dean, is a far, far cry from romance.
