Can I also point out the irony that a fandom famous for writing dubcon/noncon gay fanfic is so upset over Sam's loss of personal agency?

I agree. As far as Dean is concerned, whatever it takes to save a life is justified--not EVEN Sam's, but ESPECIALLY Sam's. And frankly, I can get behind it. As long as he's alive, there's always the chance that he could find happiness, purpose, desire to go on living ....
