What's wrong with Cas? anonymous February 4 2017, 09:35:57 UTC
I love your reactions! Always enjoy them very much!

Can anybody explain to me what's actually wrong with Cas? I don't really get it. I just rewatched his first appearance in 4x1 when they shoot him and everything and he doesn't even flinch and now he is so vulnerable. And why is he weaker than the other angels (is he? Just my impression)? They all lost their wings, didn't they? It can't be just that! Is still something wrong with his grace? He looks so worn out these days. I miss that glorious badass warrior angel.
I think I'll have to research the show from season 4 on to get it...

Thank you!

In my head, Cas is running on reduced grace. Didn't Metatron use some of it up for his spell? Or did I imagine that? But yeah, when Dean still had the MoC and he easily beat the crap out of Cas, I was all, what?

I agree, but in that particular instance, Cas didn't fight back. He let himself be beaten up.

Metatron did use it for the spell, it was the final ingredient to cast the angels out. I don't know if an angel can regenerate their grace to make it whole (full?) again.

My takeaway from this wasn't really 'nephilim are evil', I have to say. Reading between the lines, it seemed like maybe the prohibition was there to stop angels getting too close to humans and ending up with divided loyalties. (Because however powerful a nephilim is, presumably Chuck could snap his fingers and take its powers away if he really wanted.)

I've actually got a half-written fic that includes this theory! So yeah, maybe that should be changed to angels THINK nephilim are evil and must be killed.

I have nothing to add except thanks for taking the time to post this. I really enjoyed reading it (more than I enjoyed the ep I have to confess *g*)

I really enjoyed reading your reactions, and I especially enjoyed you pointing out Lily’s Mustang. When I read about that, I immediately went back to the episode to see it. Like Dean, I was too distracted by the bright lights to see it first time around, which is a shame, because I love those cars. Thanks for sharing this!

Someone in charge has a thing for Mustangs, I think. War drove one, Ruby drove one, and Sam and Dean drove one in the "My Heart Will Go On" verse. And probably others I've forgotten.

Ooh, I hadn't realized about Ruby's. I'll have to check it out!

I'm not one for angel drama, but I actually did enjoy this! I liked being reminded that Angels are dicks, and that Cas used to fit in that box, so I found it a useful reminder about how far he's come over the years. I thought Alicia Witt as Lily was wonderful, and I found her story line interesting and it held my attention. All in all, for an angel centered episode I thought it was pretty decent!

I left the episode feeling that the whole humans-can-use-angel-magic-but-it-eats-away-at-your-soul to be important, especially when linked to the cosmic consequences are bad. And it feels to me like Kelly and her baby could go either way at this point ie Angels lie and Nephilims are not all bad, or yes, Lucifer spawn is very very bad. But yes, we were both bitten bad last season, so I guess only time will tell!

I think the soul-eating angel power has got to come up again. But, given my history, it won't.
