Somewhere beyond the sea: The S12 Boat AU

Apr 18, 2016 13:18

In the comments on my recap of 11.18, bratfarrar brought up a delightful idea: since the MotW episodes have been so great in S11, wouldn't it be fantastic if S12 was just a bunch of awesome MotW episodes, with a tiny smattering of myth arc? And fanspired took it a step further by suggesting, in the comments on the 11.18 poll, wouldn't it be even better if Sam and Dean were fishing in all of those episodes? And that inspired this: Boat AU S12.

Here are the first few episodes, and I need your help completing the season...

12.01 Somewhere Beyond the Sea
Amara has been locked away, but Lucifer/Casifer is still on the loose. And since he knows how to get into the bunker, Sam and Dean decide to temporarily relocate to a small yacht anchored off a Caribbean island and try to stay off his radar.

12.02 Wasting Away Again in Margaritaville
The Winchesters spend this episode fishing, drinking beer, wearing sunglasses (Sam wears aviators, Dean wears Ray-Ban Wayfarers) and board shorts, swapping stories about their childhood, and rubbing suntan lotion on each others' backs (see, something for the Wincest fans, cause y'all may be a bunch of sick little puppies but I love you). Dean realizes Sam still doesn't have his anti-possession tattoo, because Sam is shirtless for most of this episode, so they find a little shop on the beach and get it redone. Sam also gets a new tattoo that prevents an angel from using him as a vessel, even if he's coerced into saying yes. Dean is hurt and guilt-stricken because he thinks it's about Gadreel, but Sam explains that Lucifer being out and about makes him nervous. They do a little bit of research on the Lucifer situation but not enough to be boring.

12.03 Call Me Ishmael
Dean and Sam fight a killer werewhale. It swallows Sam, and Dean thinks he's dead, so he goes crazy trying to retrieve his body and revenge-kill the werewhale. Little does he know Sam is stabbing it from the inside. When the werewhale dies and goes to Purgatory, the Winchesters are inside so they go with it. Sam is seriously wounded, but he fights to find Dean and save his life, even while he's bleeding out, and yes, this is basically Red Meat but in Purgatory. You're welcome. Sam figures out how to reset the portal so it drops them at their boat instead of the Maine woods, but he's a little bit off and they end up in the water a couple hundred yards from their boat, so Dean has to swim while dragging a semi-conscious Sam and constantly telling him you're okay, you're okay. Then he drags him onto the boat and as they huddle on the deck, exhausted and injured, they touch foreheads.

12.04 Come Sail Away
As Sam recovers from his Purgatory injures, Dean thanks him for coming to his rescue and Sam says I'm sorry I didn't go after you the first time you were in Purgatory and Dean says no, you were absolutely right; you thought I was dead and you knew how I felt about someone making a deal to bring me back from the dead, I made that perfectly clear when Dad died and Sam says but you know I would do anything for you if you wanted to be brought back, you understand that I would burn the world to bring you back unless you had told me not to while you were in your right mind, right? and Dean says yes, I understand that now, and I'm sorry I didn't get what you were trying to tell me earlier, that you would respect my choice and Sam says what am I saying, WOULD burn the world, I DID burn the world, I released the Darkness just because I thought I could save you and Dean says no, stop, you thought you were doing the right thing, you've always thought you were doing the right thing, any time you did something wrong you really were trying to do good and I gave you a hard time for all of it, whereas I, on the other hand, have done some pretty heinous things to keep you alive and it was all for selfish reasons and Sam says stop that, you're the least selfish person I know and Dean says god, you're such a girl and then he changes Sam's bandages.

12.05 Under the Sea
Sam rescues a beautiful young woman from drowning and is immediately smitten and they're banging all over the place and Dean is ridiculously proud and happy. But it turns out she's a mermaid who grew legs in order to seduce him because she's been lusting after him from afar since 12.01. She tries to get Sam to return with her to her kingdom under the sea, but it would mean leaving Dean behind forever so he refuses, and then she tries to drag him under anyway because she's evil and wants to keep him imprisoned, so Dean kills her.

12.06 If You Like Pina Coladas
More fishing, and drinking, and also some swimming and jetskis, followed by laying out on the tanning deck of the yacht. Maybe a seamonster gets killed.

12.07 Everyone Loves Shark Week (thanks to amberdreams)
Dean pisses off Neptune who takes his revenge by turning Sam into a shark and Dean into a remora. They spend some time swimming round with Dean attached to Sam until Lucifer finds them. Annoyed that a stupid redundant Roman version of a Greek God has messed about with his vessel, Lucifer turns the boys back into humans. He tries to persuade Sam to say yes but belatedly notices Sam's anti-Angel possession tattoo. Duh duh duhhhhhh.

12.08 A Pirate Looks at Forty (thanks to fanspired)
The yacht is boarded by vampirates. Sam and Dean kill them and drink all their rum. Drunken frivolity ensues and Dean wakes up to find Sam has painted him with kohl eyeliner while he was sleeping it off. (Note from the self-appointed executive producer: I may require Sam to end up wearing eyeliner as well.)

12.09 Now Step Right Back and You'll Hear a Tale (thanks to galwithglasses)
Something about the boys washing up on shore and then finding out the Professor is a long lost Man of Letters and some crucial book to save the world has been in his bag this whole time. Somehow, Dean finally ends up wearing shorts much to Ginger's delight and then he gets greasy while repairing the stupid Minnow so everyone can get off the island.

12.10 Feel the Burn (thanks to amberdreams)
Dean forgets fair skinned folk with freckles shouldn't stay out in the sun too long. Dean gets sunburn, Sam takes care of him. That's it.

What more do you want?

12.11 Come Aboard, We're Expecting You (thanks to galwithglasses)
Sam and Dean have to pose as cruise ship staff to solve some sort of plot involving mistaken identity, possession, diamonds and a large ice sculpture swan. Depending on your take on shipping, Sam and Dean might have to pose as some sort of bickering couple instead.

12.12 The Shadow Over Winchester (thanks to anactoria)
Sam and Dean find themselves in a dilapidated port town where the townsfolk are cursed to start turning into fish-people once they reach a certain age. Dean thinks this is awesome, because he's picturing mermaids in shell bras, but it turns out not so much. Instead of turning into sexy merfolk, these poor unfortunates start transforming into fish from the head down, and eventually they grow gills and have to live in the sea. (Think Go Fish, if you've seen Buffy.) There's a pair of siblings and the older one is starting to transform -- they don't want to leave their little bro/sis behind, but the sea just looks so peaceful. Dean angsts prettily because he still feels guilty about Amara's hold over him, and Sam does his supportive bro thing again, because that was great. But oh no! While distracted by angsting, Dean gets bitten by a fish-person or touches the cursed amulet or something, and finds he's starting to hear the siren call of the sea! At some point there is a scene where Sam sees a fish monster and thinks Dean has turned into one of them, and gives it a heartfelt talk about how he'll always be there for his brother, no matter what, only to then turn around and find Dean standing behind him going, "Dude, wtf?"

12.13 Who Needs a Dead Man's Chest When You've Got Sam's? (thanks to anactoria)
While the boys were in Purgatory, Benny heard about it and managed to find the portal, and he appears on the deck of the boat. After some emotional reunion hugging with Dean, he goes, 'Oh, hey, I know this bit of ocean, there's definitely a cursed pirate treasure island around here somewhere.' There is a lot of shirtless digging on beaches. Probably some curse stuff happens, but Benny definitely doesn't die, and Sam and Dean drop him off on a beach where he opens a restaurant or something.

12.14 Smoke on the Water (thanks to madebyme_x)
Sam's not been feeling great, struggling to sleep with vivid dreams about the water, but thinking that it's some kind of sea-sickness from sleeping and spending so much time on the boat, he pushes it aside. But every morning as the sun rises, the mist floating like smoke on the water's surface, he hears voices, familiar voices of Charlie, Bobby, Jess, and then his mom and dad. Reluctantly he tells Dean, who tells him he's just sick and makes him tomato rice soup. But every morning he hears the voices, so he wakes Dean up one morning, and to Dean's surprise he hears them too. It would seem like the boys have found a radio-wave to heaven, and the voices all offer advice and intel on Lucifer/Cas.

12.? The Tide Is High (thanks to brightly_lit)
Due to some angel- or demon-related mischief, their yacht becomes unmoored while they're sleeping, drifting into the Bermuda Triangle. After many heart-wrenching adventures and unexpected twists and turns, Sam and Dean finally discover the secret, retrieve that vengeful spirit's bones from the bottom of the ocean with Cas's help, and salt and burn it--but the mysterious disappearances don't stop! Cas informs them regretfully that after all these years, after getting nibbled by so many fish, it's essentially impossible to find every part of the skeleton, and moreover, they've only served to piss off the vengeful spirit more, so the Bermuda Triangle is now twice as dangerous. However, Cas arrives back on the boat dripping wet and shivering, Sam and Dean strip him and see to it he gets a warm shower and fresh clothes (he'd look adorable in Sam's huge ones, just sayin') and they finally admit just how grateful they are for all the help he's given them over the years. Teary-eyed, Cas says he's been waiting eons to hear someone say something like that.

Please add your own episodes to the season! The only rules are a) must take place on the boat or beach, or at least begin there, and b) cheesy titles that reference music or pop culture are a must.
