It's easy to fall into old habits as they travel from factory to factor, blowing up Cybermen, dodging death rays and sometimes even laughing as they do it. Sometimes Jake forgets it's not Rickey there with him, but not as often as he expected to, originally. Mickey's been softened, opened up, and he smiles more, jokes more, and when he kisses Jake it feels like a first, not a last.
Thank you! :D I think the only way that relationship would actually work out would be if he weren't a replacement. Of, course, if he were, that would be wonderfully dysfunctional.
After awhile he stops recognizing himself; he looks in the mirror and sees someone else entirely than the boy who once chased other people's adventures. I like it better, here, he tells Jake, and Jake smiles. I like here better with you, Jake replies, smiling into Mickey's mouth.
