Honestly, it's a good idea. It helps keep out some of the weirdos.

The Friends Only post has to go up at some time! I wouldn't worry about it. What gets annoying is when people keep making new ones for each new graphic they do. I just edit the post that has the friends only in it and make everyone's life easier.

There's actually a really active community for them! It's pretty awesome.
