Lord Jones, I have finished with your book. When would be a convenient time to return it to you?

[She glances down at the copy of the play in her lap.]This has been a - a most insightful play. Inaccurate in regard to details, but accurate in spirit, I think. Though I can but hope Lord Shakespeare has misrepresented my Romeo's actions near the ( Read more... )

[She can guess that Juliet isn't really as composed as she seems; no one could be, after reading a story like that, and knowing it relates to them somehow. Even if it's a story of a distant past, or another world, it's a shock. So Usagi is tactfully quiet when she replies.]

Do you want to hang out awhile? [She offers distraction.] We could work on something while we talk. [She offers an open ear. And arms for hugs.]

[Hey, everything goes well with tea.]

It reminds me of having a snack after school when I got home.

I still think you most fortunate to have gone to school as you did, Usagi.

[Now that the water's boiling, she pulls the kettle from the fire and pours it into the cups to let the tea steep.]

I really only liked it to see my friends. I wasn't very good at studying or things like that.

Even so, you had the opportunity to go out unchaperoned and be with friends all day. Such was not a possibility for me until I found myself here. And even so, Tybalt would get most upset if he learned I had sneaked out - by which I mean that I had gone out without telling him first.

[The girl who once snuck off to Earth so often understands. But that was a long time ago, and a different life. Usagi still grins sympathetically.]

You wanted to see all those new things, and experience them for yourself, right?

Exactly so. I had wanted to do so in Verona as well, but there it was next to impossible to go off on my own, unless I was going to church.

Hey! [Usagi brightens with the idea.] If you could have gone anywhere, where would you have wanted to go?

If I could have gone anywhere at home?

[She thinks for a moment as she hands Usagi her tea, and sees to her own cup.]

I should have liked to go to Rome, I think. It is several days' journey from Verona, to the south. But it is one of the oldest and greatest cities in Italy. Father has been, and he has described it in such a way that I wish to see it for myself - the grand buildings from the ancient world and the more modern buildings near the Vatican....

You're really serious about your faith, aren't you? I think it's a good thing.

[She nods solemnly at that.]

I am. Faith in God is a very big part of life in Verona. And here, where I have seen His Angels....

[She smiles.]

It is a blessing for me.

[She's... not always comfortable with the angels in Adstringendum, who seem to have so little hope or faith, or concern for humanity. But she doesn't want to dampen Juliet's faith, either, so Usagi still smiles.]

Faith can make people capable of doing a lot of good.

[She smiles at that.]

Indeed it can. And it makes accepting certain truths...somewhat easier.

Do you mean about what you found in the book?

[She takes a sip of her tea before she replies.]

...yes. But, I knew of it before I read the book. The Lady Raphael told me, at the gravestones, before Tybalt went away. I - I told you when you found me there what I saw, did I not? That is what made me think to look for the book.

I know, but, saying it now... means you found even more, doesn't it? [Or just that it's the sort of thing you can never be adequately prepared for. She hasn't forgotten her journey to meet Queen Serenity and learn about her own story.]
