I just recently finished my Space Invaders cutting boards, and I have to say, they turned out awesome. I don't have my digital camera with me right now, so I can't post a picture just yet, but they are seriously sweet (and I made an extra one to sell, so let me know if anyone's interested). I think equilateral is the way to go. It's way more common and aesthetically appealing. I can't even find a picture of the triforce from the original game to compare, but definitely equilateral.
