identify? idk. that's a good question. i can see myself sometimes in certain characters, but not in any one character. like, sometimes i have the very bad habit of speaking my mind as if i could never be convinced about any alternative pov, and it's not true so whenever Damen (erroneously) thinks Laurent is unconvinced by his opinions i laugh.

i think a lot of the characters in the story don't translate well to RL-- not that they aren't realistic, but that i could only love them 'cause they're fictional so i'd say that Jord is an excellent choice to id with. ;D cheers, bb.

Oh yeah we can only love them because we know that freece will give us plenty of delicious insight that keeps us from really getting to grips/pronouncing final judgement on the characters and boy are we all suckers for those that play hard to get, even in fic! The single POV is intrinsic to it, of course, and yet another reason to wow with the way freece pulls us in and plays with our minds, dammit. In a good way :)

In RL we'd run a mile from the Regent or Nicaise but in fic we want MOAH.I like to be near the power base but basically watch what goes on - so Jord it is :D No centre stage for me, thanks.

thanks for chatting hun

i'd run another mile from Laurent, beautiful calculating bastard, and even Damen with his princely thoughts on "benign forms of slavery" despite the fact that he's been a slave and loathes it with like the power of a gazillion suns.

you are so welcome, bb. <3 :}

I'd hide from both but still peep through the grill when they FINALLY get it on.... whoot!

Identify? Hm. I wish I could say Laurent, but that would be a massive lie, because I am not like him at all. The closest I think would actually be Damen. Not in terms of physical capabilities, because physically I'm a wuss, but in terms of temperament I'm pretty similar. I tend to think in lamentably straight lines unless I'm making a conscious effort not to, and as such I tend to be fairly naive and trusting to a fault, especially where family and relatives are involved. I also get ridiculously stubborn and prickly when I feel like my ideals are being challenged.

Also! Damen and I definitely share the same taste in men: the sort who are pretty yet massively intelligent, always cool and collected, and in posession of a wit and sense of humour sharp enough to cut =D

Yeah, I get that about Damen - he is a sweet boy for all his privilege and strength but he likes his straight lines. Laurent couldn't do a straight line if you paid him, even if it only curved when most onlookers lost the perspective!

I love all this investment in character we get as readers - there is so much wonderful characterisation to delve into.

This story is like being in love with a few different people at the same time - it makes you pre-occupied, horny and distracted (and you can't see a happy resolution, however much you try :DD

Even though I am addicted to this mostly because of the Laurent/Damian UST, there's no question in my mind about the answer to your query: I would totally want to be a Vaskian clanswoman: any Vaskian clanswoman! (Remember those coupling fires!!!)

That is simply the best answer there can possibly be to this question and I salute you.

Now get your knickers off and dance around that campfire!

Laurent, although I'm nothing like him in most respects - I always identify with the introverts.

It is fascinating to me that you identify Laurent firstly as an introvert - (if that is what you are doing, forgive me if I'm going wiht assumptions again).

I am an introvert myself and find that attractive in him but until you said it, I'd never really thought about it with the front of my brain - to me he is beauty, royal and "other" and those characteristics dominate my perception of him to such an extent that I can't relate on a "personal" level to him. But that peep into his rooms when Damen saved him - when he was reading with his glass of wine - that really started to make me love him.

That was the moment for me too -- well, I'd already started shifting perspective (from perpetual loathing) when he in fact did as Damon asked, no matter how snotty he was. But yes; I like the introversion pointing out. He obviously only felt safe talking to his brother -- his throwaway comment later on he and his brother discussing attraction to girls illuminates that really nicely.

I have this fond notion of Laurent that when he is alone and scared or upset, he allows himself to think of his brother and brings out a memory of better times which he savours before putting it away again. We get the impression that it is only from his sibling that he's had the kind of love that allowed him to be himself, unfettered - in my imaginings Laurent permits himself this comfort rarely, because he dare not bare his weakness and need for his enemy's manipulation ( ... )
