When they finally meet, after the obligatory sloppy makeouts are all done with, the trolls and humans start trying to sort out who's who.
John holds out his hand to the girl with the sharp red glasses. "Hi!" he says, as energetically as he can (the trolls all looked grey - well, greyer than they should have - and there was less of them than he'd expected, and they were all so very very thin, and he just wanted to give them all a hug, but he was pretty sure that would lead to some Cultural Misunderstandings and maybe also Karkat violently having a fit so he was sticking to very friendly handshakes) "I'm - "
Before he can finish, the angular girl is this close to his face, and all he can see is her wide black mouth and rows and rows of teeth. A grey thing he's pretty sure is a tongue darts out and licks his cheek ( ... )

Later, when the trolls and humans have scattered, and John's trying to figure out if what
he's just alchemized is, indeed, edible (later, hunched over a toilet, he's forced to
conclude that it was not), when Terezi slides into a seat next to him.
"Hey," he says, prodding the congealing mass again.
She sniffs the air. "I find you interesting, John-human."
John looks away from her. Even though he knows she can't see it's still like she's staring
at him. "Uhh, haha, why's that?"
"I got the impression from the coolkid that you humans were all the epitome of chill." She's
nabbed some of John's cutlery, and is chewing on it thoughtfully, and oh jegus is she
