The game never happened. Instead, the entire thing was imagined by at least one of the kids/trolls; it only happened in their heads, and it's gotten them stuck in an insane asylum. The story could be them imagining they're still playing in a padded cell, or having a session with a therapist, or whatever; your call.
I like Karkat and John for this, as they're the leaders of their respective teams, and the most likely to imagine something, but any character(s) is/are alright.
I'd like something serious and depressing, but comedy is okay, if you can pull it off.
