Mitch, question is, how much use would a laptop be? If you're going to get a lot of use out of it, it's a good idea (particularly if you've got the dosh to spare too).
But as a long-time Windows user who didn't want to touch Vista with a ten-foot pole, the Mac interface is pretty easy to get the hang of. Granted, it took me about a month, but after the month, it was an absolute cinch to use: you don't even need to think ^___^;; AND think about how sexy the whole thing looks! ooh, and I've got the old white model with the new mid-range specs, and I was spewing when they came out with a new, cheaper model within two months >_< So much hate!
I've got an M1330, fucking beauty of a laptop. Protip: if there isn't a deal on with Dell for it at the time, call them up and see what you can weasel out of them- I got $100 off the extended warranty and a free printer without even trying.
If you want to see one in the flesh, Officeworks have Dell displays where you can play with them (though they have lower-spec ones so buy it from Dell directly). If you have Officeworks down that way, anyway...
