I was totally wondering how this was going to turn out, especially since I'm becoming greatly sick of commercials and promo-ing during shows and stuff for it. I still have NEVER been to a 3D movie, and figured that this one might be a good place to start.
3-D is a gimmick, and, like all gimmicks, if it's used sparingly and subtly it works quite well. The problem with other 3-D movies is that they tend to somewhat batter the audience over the head with the fact that the movie is in 3-D, what with every single action or effect being made directly into the camera. It's a hell of a lot more subtle here (yeah, I'm accusing a James Cameron movie of subtlety!!!), the 3-D here is just another part of the storytellers arsenal, a moviemaking tool that Cameron has used as effectively as he has any other tool. :)
